Dental Bridge And Dental Implants

Submitted by annefields

In modern dental restoration of missing tooth or teeth, there are currently two methods that dentists all over the world have come to use. These methods include the use of dental bridges and dental implants. The dental bridge is part of fixed prosthodontics used to replace missing tooth. This specific method was considered as the only practice that specializes in providing a way to restore missing tooth before dental implants were introduced.

Differences between Dental Implants and Dental Bridges

Although both methods restore missing teeth by making using of materials that perfectly imitate the features of a real tooth (porcelain for dental bridges), the process by which both are applied differ According to the dentist burbank, dental bridges are less invasive than dental implants. However, many have stated that dental implants are stronger than dental bridges.

A bridge is fabricated by reducing the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth by a preparation pattern determined by the location of the teeth and by the material from which the bridge is fabricated. In other words, the abutment teeth are reduced in size to accommodate the material to be used to restore the size and shape of the original teeth in a correct alignment and contact with the opposing teeth. Dental implants, however, should be performed under general anesthesia, oral conscious sedation, nitrous oxide sedation, intravenous sedation or under local anesthesia.

In its most basic form, dental implants require a preparation into the bone using either hand osteotomes or precision drills with highly regulated speed to prevent burning or pressure necrosis of the bone. After a variable amount of time to allow the bone to grow onto the surface of the implant, a tooth or teeth can be placed on the implant. According to the dentist burbank, the amount of time required to place an implant will vary depending on the experience of the practitioner and difficulty of the individual situation.

Although dental bridges and dental implants are two different methods used for replacing missing tooth, these two are usually combined. If there isn't any adjacent tooth that dental bridges can be attached to, dental implants are sometimes used to secure the bridge. According to the dentist burbank, this method eliminates the need for multiple dental implants which are usually the issue for dental crowns.
