Dental veneers are the materials currently used by a number of cosmetic dentists today. This is because of its capabilities rarely found in other methods of dental restoration. Dental veneers are often used to aesthetically improve the features of our teeth or to protect damaged tooth. Its success in the field of cosmetology and dentistry have lead to its expansion to further serve the public market. Unlike in the past in which dental veneers are usually composed of porcelain veneers, dental veneers of today have become a lot more diverse. Dental veneers currently in use today are as follows:

* Porcelain Veneers: One of the first materials ever to have been used as veneers, porcelain veneers are known to be stronger and more aesthetically pleasing. The only disadvantage of porcelain veneers is the cost. According to beverly hills veneers specialists, porcelain veneers costs around anywhere from $1000 a tooth upwards to $2500 per tooth as of 2009.

* Composite Veneers: A perfect alternative to expensive porcelain veneers, composite resins are far less cheaper and affordable than porcelain veneers. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement such as Panavia. In contrast, a porcelain veneer may only be indirectly fabricated. Disadvantages of composite veneers include its strength (not as strong as porcelain veneers) and its hue (not as natural looking as those with porcelain veneers).

* Lumineers: Lumineers are dental veneers made from porcelain. The difference between lumineers and porcelain veneers is that a typical reduction of approximately 0.5 mm is required for a porcelain veneer whereas lumineers need no such preparation. According to beverly hills veneers specialists, This allows the patient to easily remove the veneers due to the lack of modification required to the tooth to apply the veneer. Although some etching does occur in the procedure, there is no local anesthesia required in the procedure to apply Lumineers, due to lack of shaving required in other dental veneer procedures. Disadvantages include the lack of translucency normally associated with the enamel on natural teeth, the possibility of removal, cleanliness, as well as the thickness of the veneers themselves.

Advantages

Veneers are important tools for the cosmetic dentist. A dentist may use one veneer to restore a single tooth that may have been fractured or discolored, or multiple teeth to create a "Hollywood" type of makeover. Many people have small teeth resulting in spaces that may not be easily closed by orthodontics. Some people have worn away the edges of their teeth resulting in a prematurely aged appearance, while others may have malpositioned teeth that appear crooked. According to beverly hills veneers specialists, multiple veneers can close these spaces, lengthen teeth that have been shortened by wear, provide a uniform color, shape, and symmetry, and make the teeth appear straight.
