Practicing proper oral hygiene is integral in living a healthy life. Keeping our teeth healthy, clean, and thoroughly maintained is one of the most effective ways of avoiding dental diseases such as cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. Proper oral hygiene is also one of the many ways of keeping our teeth white and maintaining an aesthetically pleasing smile. So what are the ways of keeping our teeth, gums, and every part of our mouth healthy? One way of keeping our teeth healthy and sparkling white is through tooth brushing.

Importance of Tooth Brushing

Modern medical research has shown that proper brushing of teeth can prevent cavities, gingivitis, and periodontal or gum disease, which causes at least one-third of adult tooth loss. If teeth are not brushed correctly and frequently, it could lead to the calcification of saliva minerals, forming tartar. Brushing one's teeth has long been considered an important part of dental care. Two key elements of proper tooth brushing involves the toothbrush and a toothpaste.

Toothbrush

Toothbrushes available today are offered with varying textures of bristles, and come in many different sizes and forms. Most cosmetic dentist huntington park would usually recommend using a toothbrush labelled "Soft", since firmer bristled toothbrushes can damage tooth enamel and irritate gums as indicated by the American Dental Association. It's also important to keep our toothbrushes clean by keeping them in a clean canister. Some toothbrushes come with covers on their brushes, but remember to keep these covers clean otherwise, bacteria will start to build up on the covers which could end up in your teeth.

Many dentists, such as the cosmetic dentist huntington park, also recommends regularly changing your toothbrush after 3-4 months of use, or even earlier, just as soon as the bristles get bent or splayed out. Continuous use of toothbrushes that needs to be replaced may further damage the tooth or may cause harm to gums. Another is to use a toothbrush that fits your size. Using a child's toothbrush may not effectively clean your teeth as much as an adult's toothbrush does.

Toothpaste

Toothpastes are always used in conjunction with toothbrushes. Toothpastes further improve the health and aesthetics of our teeth and gums by aiding in the removal of dental plaque and food from the teeth which normal toothbrushing can't accomplish. It is also the main factor in preventing one of the bad side effects of poor oral hygiene which is halitosis or bad breath. Different cosmetic dentist huntington park always recommend using a toothpaste that contains fluoride so as to prevent tooth and gum diseases such as gingivitis.

Final Pointers

Brushing is essential for cleaning teeth and gums effectively. Use a toothbrush with soft, nylon, round-ended bristles that will not scratch and irritate teeth or damage gums. Unfortunately, ofone of the most common diseases rivaling the common cold and with an economic impact of heart disease and diabetes. This however could be remedied with proper use of dental flosses. the toothbrush cannot reach inside pits and fissures on chewing surfaces of back teeth where over 80%
cavities occur.
