Is Your Man Emotionally Intimate with You?

Submitted by Felicity Maris Modesto

There is only his face. That indelible image of a countenance devoid of any feeling. Looking into his eyes, it is hard to tell if he is troubled, saddened, or pissed. With his steely, unwavering gaze directed straight forward, he seems to be staring deep into a world only he can see, yet at the same time, ironically appearing as though his attention is fixated on nothing at all. Lips reduced to a thin horizontal line, not a word or gesture escapes him. Sighing, you just look away and resign yourself to helplessness.

Seeing His Heart

When it comes to their emotions, majority of men are artichokes. Getting them to open up their heart to anyone would mean having to labor painstakingly to take out each hard shell layer after layer, one leaf at a time. On the other hand, expecting them to just reveal themselves on their own would take serious waiting time and patience on our part. Placing our hopes that one day they would just expose themselves and cry is a near impossibility, unless circumstances prove to be either too overwhelming or way too tragic. But nevertheless, it is still not guaranteed. Thus, determining if they are suffering from depression or anxiety symptoms can be quite troublesome, for they tend to express their anguish or sorrow in different ways. As such, their inability to be comfortable in divulging their feelings only goes to show how much trouble they are having when it comes to being emotionally intimate with their special someone.

Identifying His Inability to Become Emotionally Intimate

If you want to reach out and help your man heal from his emotional pain, getting him to become emotionally intimate with you is the first and most crucial step. In order to ascertain if he is really having serious difficulty opening up, here are the indications you should be aware of.

He can discuss any topic with you, but when it comes to his feelings, he always diverts the topic or avoids it completely through outright silence.
*

He is stoic and poker faced. He is unable to show affection, sadness, and even pain. Actually his poker faced trait is acquired to serve his purpose of concealing how he truly feels inside.
*

He would never ever let himself cry no matter how overwhelming the situation may be.
*

He has that irritating capacity to make jests about serious matters or situations.
*

When he is cornered into discussing emotionally charged issues, he does either of the following: he shifts to another topic, or he walks out on you.
*

As irritating as it is, he seems to be indifferent and apathetic toward other people's feelings.
