Migraine headaches are a destructive part of life for nearly 11 out of 100 people. During migraine episodes, they can barely function. They curtail daily activities, and all of life seems distorted. Between episodes, they may feel anxious about the next one, and wish for some form of migraine prevention. The dictionary tells us that the word "migraine" is a Middle French word, modified from the Latin word "hemicrania", meaning a pain in one half or "hemi" of the head. To the person who suffers migraine, the pain may seem bigger than that, however. In fact, the current definition of migraine includes not only recurring, excruciating headache, but also nausea and possible vomiting.
Migraine Prevention A migraine headache is a symptom. The pain is a sign that something is seriously wrong. You have a choice: you can choose prevention - find the cause and make changes in your life. Or you can look for the fastest way to get rid of the pain (which will come back again and again.) Every cell in your body needs three simple things: Provide it with the right raw materials. Let it do its work -- producing energy, synthesizing essential building blocks, repairing tissues, organs, etc. Help it to get rid of any wastes. Most of your body is water -- salt water, to be accurate. To keep your body functioning well, you need water and salt on a regular basis. Water is needed to ensure adequate volume inside your cells. Salt is needed to control the water outside your cells and in circulation. With sufficient water in your body, all the parts of your body have the raw materials they need, the freedom of movement to carry out chemical reactions, and the ease of ridding themselves of waste. When migraines hit, people are surprised, shocked, indignant, hurt, outraged, confused, disillusioned, depressed... the list goes on. Yes, migraines are horrible. The pain is real, terrible and destructive. But your body is telling you something. STOP DOING whatever it is you're doing that's hurting me! How else does your body get a message across to you? As long as you keep functioning, as long as you don't hurt, you do whatever you want, you use your body however you want. Pain is the only thing that gets your attention. It could make a surprising change for the better. Chances are you will digest your food better, sleep better, have fewer aches and pain -- for starters. Long-term benefits can include a reduction in migraines. Without adequate water to flush them away, acidic waste products build up in your cells. The acid irritates your nerve endings, sending pain messages to the brain. Dehydration can lead to migraines.
