The Connecting Lines Between Depression And Abuse

Submitted by markwalters

There is very little reason to question whether or not abuse – whether physical or psychological – is connected to depression. Panic attacks, depression, abuse of self, and anxiety have sometimes been found to form a chain of problems that many are hard-pressed to overcome. There are numerous reasons for people to find themselves in this situation, with the lack of emotional support from people they care about being one of the main reasons. The fact that the world tends to be structured so that it is cruel and indifferent to human emotional pain sometimes makes it worse. Seeking help for depression and other problems can also be a taxing problem, as they would be seen as being signs of weakness, of inferiority, or insanity.

It is known that sensitivity is a base of mental health, though reasoning plays quite a big role. Compassion, comprehension, piety, and empathy are all things that patients with depression and other mental health problems need badly, not exposure to aggression and indifference. This is something that the highly competitive nature of modern society does not promote, with the endless struggle for superiority in one form or another taking precedence. As such, most people are left to fend for themselves in dealing with mental illness if they don't seek out any form of help. The harsh reality is that, even with therapy or treatment, someone with a mental illness or disorder would still need emotional support from people close to them. Friends, family, and lovers all need to be willing to offer a little something more to help the person handle their problem.

The sad reality is that the modern world is better at ignoring or causing abuse than it is at alleviating it. As the abuse piles on and the stress begins to creep into the person's thought processes, the problems can either begin to form or worsen.
