When Inferiority Complex Rules Your Life

Feeling not up to par or inadequate strikes every one of us. Finding ourselves and recognizing our potentials as well as our weaknesses in this ever competitive world can be such a daunting ordeal that none of us can turn our backs on. However, refusing to take on the challenge is not a choice given to any of us in the first place. Cowering in the corner and allowing ourselves to live life without recognizing ourselves for who we truly are is akin to having not lived at all. Despite the complexity and difficulty of taking on the hurdle, trying our best or making the attempt to assert ourselves despite the inherent inferiority that may creep up at us from time to time is imperative. But if we are riddled with an inferiority complex, circumstances are likely to make a different turn.

What is inferiority complex?

Occasional feelings of inferiority are common, but having an inferiority complex is a different thing. In psychology, an inferiority complex is recognized as an advanced state of discouragement which could lead a person suffering from it to turn his/her back on life's challenges. This condition is tantamount to having an extremely low self-esteem. However, the manner in which a person may handle or manifest it may vary accordingly.

The Effects

As such, people with inferiority complex are unaware of their condition. They are more often than not characterized by their irritable and even aggressive nature. Aside from these, they may feel either alienated or isolated, and this makes them vulnerable to acquiring depression.

The effects inferiority complex have, can drive a person to do either go out of his way to compensate the perceived lacks, and in doing so, is likely to overcompensate for them; OR may revert his own shell completely, acquiring a totally antisocial behavior, thereby detaches himself from the rest of the world.
