Do you Know the Symptoms of Scabies?

Submitted by ebetsanders

A delayed-type hypersensitivity (allergic) resulting in a response papular rash (red, raised area on the skin), which often manifests 30-40 days after infection. While there may be hundreds of papules less than 10 burrows are usually found. The terrier appears as a fine, scaly and slightly wavy line of a few millimeters in a centimeter long. A tiny mite (0.3 to 0.4 mm) can sometimes be seen at the end of the hollow. Most of the burrows occur in the two bands fingers surfaces bending of the wrists, elbows, armpits and around the areola of the breast in women and on the genitals of men along the belt line, and the bottom of the buttocks. The face are not generally involved in adults.

The rash can become secondarily infected; scratching the rash can break the skin and make it more likely secondary infection. In people with severely reduced immunity, such as those infected with HIV or people being treated with immunosuppressive drugs such as steroids, a widespread eruption on the scale thickness may result. This variety of Norwegian scabies is called scabies.

Scabies is often misdiagnosed as intense pruritus (itching of the skin's health) before eruptions papular form. On initial pruritus paths appear as a small dent barely discernible on the hands and may be slightly brighter and darker in color than red. Initially, the itching may not correlate exactly to the location of these bosses. As the infestation progresses, these bumps become more red in color.

Generally, the diagnosis is made by finding burrows, which often can be difficult because they are rare, because they are hidden from scratch marks, or dermatitis secondary (without skin irritation) . If the tunnels are not found in the main areas known to be affected, all of the skin surface of the body should be examined.

The suspect zone can be rubbed with ink of a pen or alternately topical tetracycline solution that glow under a special light. The surface is then removed with an alcohol pad, if the person is infected with scabies, the characteristic zigzag or S model of the hollow through the skin appear.

Quand un suspect est trouvé terrier, le diagnostic peut être confirmé par microscopie de grattage de la surface, qui sont placés sur une diapositive dans le glycérol, l'huile minérale ou l'immersion dans l'huile et recouvert a plate. Avoid potassium hydroxide is necessary because it can dissolve excrement. Diagnosis positive occurs when mites, ova, or droppings are found.

Immune system
People with compromised immune systems do not develop antibodies to the mites and may develop a crust Norwegian scabies, where many form scabs or very red skin especially among the elderly and the mentally handicapped, where the white or gray crust to develop areas with little itching and little or no Bosses and red mite population soar to hundreds of thousands or millions of AIDS. These cases require additional treatment options to ensure a complete kill. Ivermectin is the treatment of choice in these patients combined with another topical treatment.
