There are a lot of resources on the internet, in books, and from the medical community on the dangers of drug and alcohol use during pregnancy. However, there is not very much quality information on what you should do if you have a problem with alcohol or drugs and are pregnant.

Not all women who drink during their pregnancy give birth to children with FAS, even those who drank frequently. Some child that are born to alcoholic mothers appear to be normal as an infant but develop physical, intellectual, and psychological problems as they grow older, due to exposure of alcohol as a fetus. According to most studies, there is no such thing as a safe amount of alcohol consumption.

Loss of Muscle Control - at the level of 0.10, slurred speech will likely be evident. Impaired judgement and poor coordination are physical effects of alcohol abuse that can lead to falls and accidents.

Adverse Interactions with Medications - alcohol is known to interact negatively with at least 100 medications. For example, antihistamines taken with alcohol can increase the drowsiness that this medication by itself can cause. Large doses of the painkiller acetaminophen taken together when consuming alcohol increases the risk of liver damage.

Fetal alcohol syndrome is relatively rare and takes place only in the children of mothers who are alcoholic or at least drink regularly and heavily during pregnancy.

It is never a good idea to consume large amounts of alcohol during pregnancy. Being pregnant takes enough of a toll on your body. The alcohol in your blood can lead to a miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, and birth defects. Some babies are born addicted to alcohol because they have consumed so much of it in the womb. This is known as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Symptoms of alcohol addiction include losing control when you start drinking, mild or serious withdrawal symptoms when you've not consumed alcohol over a period of time, and noticeable changes in the effects that alcohol has on you.

There is a chance of extreme hyperactive behavior in an FAS child, which can be misdiagnosed easily. Especially when there are so many theories and new ideas about children displaying any sorts of troubled behavior.

Expectant mothers are advised to discard a lifestyle consisting of alcohol, caffeine and smoking. As per medical experts, during pregnancy, alcohol is potent enough to cause some critical pregnancy risk factors like Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, also underweight babies, babies with some health problems and even behavior abnormalities.

There is no cure for endometriosis, but there are many treatments for the pain and infertility that it causes. Hormonal therapy may include birth control pills, progestins, a class of drugs known as GnRH-agonists, and danazol (though this is seldom used any more). Conservative surgery seeks to remove or destroy the growths, relieve pain, and may allow pregnancy to occur in some cases. Pain of endometriosis is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil) or naproxen sodium (Aleve). Oral contraceptive pills (estrogen and progesterone in combination) are also sometimes used to treat endometriosis. The most common combination used is in the form of the oral contraceptive pill (OCP).
