Cradle Cap

Submitted by addamdevin

One of the commonest neonatal diseases that are seen in case of almost half of the babies is cradle cap. It is marked by crusty, scaly, greasy spots. It generally occurs after two to three months of the birth of the baby and is prominent around the ear, the eyebrows and the eyelids. In some cases, it also occurs in the other part of the body. It is not infectious and do not irritate the baby.

In most of the cases, cradle cap remains mild and does not take any serious turn. However, there is every possibility that the skin condition may take an ugly turn, if it is not taken care of properly and left unnoticed. With a number of easy and cheap remedies available, it is not at all necessary for parents to be worried about treating the disease. In addition to the commercial lotions, some easy homely remedy is also there for it.

Oil can be a good means of curing cradle cap. Any kind of oil (vegetable or chemical) can be used profusely on the affected area and left for a few hours. After some hours, when the scales become greasy, one can brush them off something very soft. While brushing off the oily scales, special care should be taken so that the scales may go away but the affected area is not disturbed.

Apart from oil, there is another very easy remedy for cradle cap in the form of shampoo. Some mild shampoo can be mixed with water in good proportion and used to wash the affected area. Special care is necessary in this case also as using shampoo that has hard detergent in it may cause harm to the disease. Without taking the trouble of curing the disease in this way, commercial lotions can be used to control and cure it easily.
