Filling the Role of Protector by Learning Self Defense

Submitted by directinc

Most men have a set of values from which they draw when they operate on a daily basis. These values are mostly traditional in nature, and have been passed on from generation to generation since the beginning of time. For instance, in a traditional household, the man assumes the role of provider and protector. As far as the provider role goes, this simply means that the man of the house does what is necessary to be the main breadwinner for the family. But the protector role is sometimes more difficult to define. In a general sense, protecting your family must mean that you are willing to stand up for their safety. But this raises the question as to what extent must you be willing to go to protect the safety of yourself and your family. Regardless of how you answer this question, you will agree that having at least a basic understanding of self defense will help you fill the role of protector.

Without a doubt, professional training will improve your ability to defend yourself and your family. It is just a simple fact that you cannot learn the skills needed to mobilize an aggressor through reading alone. But even before you participate in a training course, there are a few things that can help you along the way. First and foremost, it is important to understand that when it comes to protecting yourself, defense is always the best offense.

When it comes to self defense it is of utmost importance for you to understand that fighting should always be your last option. In other words, even after developing all of the skills necessary to protect yourself physically, you should reserve physical maneuvers for when there are no other options. This means that if confronted with an aggressor, your first line of self defense should lie in trying to diffuse the situation with your words. Too many times, people trained in self defense are hasty to put their training to use and wind up engaging in an altercation that could have been diffused. Just knowing that you could protect yourself physically if needed will give you the confidence necessary to diffuse the situation. As such, training is not for nil even if you never have to actually engage in a fight.

Being committed to abstaining from fighting unless absolutely necessary makes you that much better able to defend yourself if needed. This is because people are able to defend themselves with all of their might if the fight is absolutely necessary. In other words, if you or your family is in imminent danger of a serious threat, you will undoubtedly be more effective than if you were fighting merely because somebody cut you off. In short, when it is critical that you defend yourself, you will find it much easier to engage your attacker with the unrestrained passion that is oftentimes necessary to win a fight.

These are important concepts, but they are of little value unless you have some training to back them up. As such, a good protector of his family should look into specialized training for self defense. You can find more information on an excellent training course at www.CloseCombatTraining.com.
