Get Fit in 2009Submitted by mjjames1 Tue, 13 Jan 2009
If you’ve come to the decision that you want to improve your lifestyle and spend less time in front of the TV, computer or games console, then congratulations! A more active lifestyle will have tremendous benefits on your health and general wellbeing.
Here are 7 reasons for becoming more active and improving your lifestyle. 1. To Get Fit You might currently lead a sedate lifestyle that involved driving to work, sitting at a desk all day, driving home and then lounging in front of the TV all evening. Even 30 minutes of exercise a day, can make a great deal of difference. 2. To Eat Better With the vast amount of cookery books, TV shows and online recipes, there is no longer any excuse for eating badly. Whilst there is nothing wrong with occasionally treating yourself to something unhealthy, you should still aim for low fat food, and at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Eating better will ensure that you get all the vitamins and minerals you need, to maintain a healthy balanced diet. 3. To Lose Weight Weight loss is one of the main reasons that people want to start a diet and take up an exercise programme. If you eat properly, and exercise regularly, you should begin to see that you are losing weight. 4. To Take Up a Sport Why not take up a sport? It could be something you used to enjoy like football, tennis, cycling, swimming or netball, or it could be something new to you. 5. To Take it Seriously If you are already active but want to become more focused and have something to work towards, why not consider taking it more seriously? Perhaps you jog regularly, but have never thought about entering a 5k or 10k race. What about joining a cycling club, and seeing how you get on? Why not join a 5-a-side league and play regularly rather than just have a kick around with your friends? You and your friends can set yourselves realistic and achievable goals and see how you get on. 6. To Try a New Exercise Class Many gyms offer exercise classes as well as traditional free weights and resistance machines. If you’ve always fancied yoga, Pilates, or a spinning class, why not enquire? It’s not just about aerobics these days! 7. To Get More Sleep Do you really have to stay up late every night watching TV? Exercising will make you tired, and help you to sleep better. Getting more sleep is highly beneficial. Whether you are an elite marathon runner or just want to stop feeling so lethargic in the afternoons. According to several sports coaches, and other recent research, at least 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep is required. As you get fitter, and exercise more, you may find that you don’t need so much sleep, or that you wake up feeling much better and ready to face the day. Now you know how easy it is to start to get fitter and healthier, isn’t it time you started your exercise programme?
