Memory FAQ
Question:
Why do we better bear in mind pictures than written combinations?

Answer:
In the course of evolution, people became accomplished in using visual memory a lot. They did not deal much with mathematics or abstractions. That is why there are parts of our brain developed specially to work for visual memory. Evolution generally gives superior adapted individuals a better opportunity for living. Persons who could think of better, e.g. shape of the prey or opponent, could survive better, and give their "expert" genes to the next cohort. Working out a differential was not needed in apes or early humans. That is why nature did not develop a specific calculator into our brain. It has, nonetheless, built a calculator for dealing with visual data. You "record" the picture, and get a short answer: "danger!" or "food!". Those uncomplicated signals are easier to think of than cascades of bits of a complicated image.

Question:
It is well known that people can be classified into late sleepers, owls, and early sleepers, larks. Has there been any research to indicate what sleeping category has healthier memory?
Answer:
The thought that persons are naturally born prone to be either larks or owls is wide of the mark. The reason for their difference are in the lifestyle and temperament (which are both effectively connected). Owls may possibly show heaps of excitement for learning as this interest is the main cause that makes them owls. converselylarks can make better use of early morning hours where they can consider in quiet at the time when their memories are most refreshed. The best system for better learning would then doubtless be to sleep in a way that brings greatest refreshment, i.e. without paying much attention to the specific sleeping hours
