Protecting Yourself from Colds: A How-To Guide

Submitted by markwalters

Colds are a very common infection that affect men, women, and children alike. It appears to be most prominent during the winter season, even when the cold season has nothing to do with it. If you look back to the times when you yourself were infected with the cold virus, wouldn't you say that it was a big hassle having to go through the day sniffling and sneezing?

To save you from experiencing those hassles again, here are some helpful tips on how to avoid acquiring the common cold:
  • Wash your hands regularly.
Colds are usually passed on through contact. You may have shaken the hand of an infected person who just wiped his runny nose with his hand and not know it. When you rub your eyes or nose, you may have unintentionally let the virus into your system.
  • Take multivitamins.
Especially those that include A and B-complex. Vitamin A boosts the production of the antibodies in the system, thereby helping you get rid of the cold virus before it even infects you. B-complex vitamins, on the other hand, is great for natural healing and boosting the immune system.
  • Eat fruits rich in vitamin C.
These fruits are rich in bioflavinoids that can help strengthen your sinuses that prevent germs and viruses from entering our system. This has been proven to cut the risks of acquiring colds by 85%.
  • Get enough sleep.
Having just the right amount of deep, restful sleep can help the body produce infection-fighting antibodies that will protect you from catching a cold. Also, getting an adequate amount of sleep boosts your immune system to guard against cold infections.
  • Gargle with water.
At the early onset of cold, like a throat itch, gargle with plain tap water twice a day. It cuts the odds of getting colds by half because it expels the germs before they can fully attach to your throat.
  • Prevention is better than cure, a lot of doctors say. And that is true. Imagine how much effort and money you'll get to save by protecting yourself from colds with these easy tips.
