The Basic Yoga Session - First Time At A Yoga ClassSubmitted by segovia Thu, 27 Dec 2007
Appearing at your first basic yoga session can cause as much stress as learning how to drive. When looking at all the abnormal yoga poses you see in the media, "intimidating" is probably the word that comes to a beginning yoga student. But as a student it is important to keep in mind the reasons why you became interested in this form of exercise. It has become a fashionable and approachable practice that allows even the most inexperienced student to enjoy more flexibility and strength without all of the massive amounts of actions that is shared in other forms of exercise.
Basic yoga sessions usually are composed of introductions to your yoga instructor and your fellow beginning classmates. Not to worry. With the assistance of your yoga instructor you will be gently and slowly be guided through each of the yoga poses (asanas). It is their responsibility to guide you to extend yourself, and your postures in order to get the full benefits of the yoga exercise. Along with the fluid movement of the yoga poses is the addition of a guided meditation that is meant to bring a sense of relaxation that will open up the possibility for self-awareness. To get the most of your yoga practice, it is best to find a knowledgeable yoga instructor. It is to your benefit to take the time to discuss with them any questions you might have about a recent injury, or ongoing back or joint pains. You have a lot of options available to you if you decide to take your first basic yoga session. One alternative is to go to your local community center or gym and try out a class. Another alternative is to ask around and see which yoga instructor your friends might want to recommend. Since yoga has become accessible to everyone from the youngest child to the seniors you are sure to find a class that will suit your schedule and level of experience. Remember that yoga is about bringing together the mind, body and spirit in an open and safe environment. Through taking yoga, you will notice a higher familiarity of your body and your environment.
