Working in a Little ExerciseSubmitted by galaxywd Sat, 5 Jul 2008
It is really no wonder that obesity is on the rise in our country and others. The way that some of us choose to eat is one of the main reasons that so many of us are over weight. Fast foods from our favorite restaurants during our busy days are partially responsible along with the kinds of foods that we like to snack on at home. Many of us eat far less fruits and vegetables than we need. We usually eat too much red meat and not nearly enough fish and whole grains.
Along with the improper way that a lot of us eat is the fact that we do not get the proper exercise. We might think that because we do a fair amount of walking during the day that it is enough because we are so tired at the end of it. This tiredness may or may not be caused from physical exertion. Mental and emotional stress from our jobs and daily activities can add to the feeling of physical exhaustion. Having a lack of proper and adequate exercise for our bodies combined with the lack of a correct diet can literally cause our lives to be shortened by years. If you are an older person you might believe that it is too late to make changes that can reverse some of the effects of the bad habits you have had for years. You can do it one step at a time, one day at a time. If you have such a busy schedule that you can not imagine taking time to implement a regular exercise routine a few times a week, then do your best to find the small opportunities that you could be overlooking. If there are stairs where you work, you can take them several times a week or even once a day instead of the elevator. Even if you work on the ground floor, use the stairs on your lunch hour as a conveniently located piece of exercise equipment. If you tend to get drowsy after you eat your lunch, a quick walk up a few flights of stairs will wake you up. If you eat out at lunch and have a restaurant close enough that serves up some healthy food choices, try walking there and back for lunch. These are small changes you can make during the work day that can add up to a much healthier body inside and out. If you just use your imagination there are probably other ways you can find to sneak in a little exercise here and there without actually interrupting your day. About the Author
