Working it out with Phylice Kessler

Did you know that the human heart pumps blood to itself first, before it feeds the other organs? You too need to take care of yourself first and your health. If you are not healthy and don’t feel good about yourself, you can’t help those who need you, and as working moms there are lots of people who need us.

Here are 10 easy tips on fitting exercise into your busy day:

1. Set your clothes out the night before and wake up early. This is a perfect time while everyone is sleeping, sometimes they won’t even know you are gone and you will come back feeling great! Working out in the morning will help you be more energized for the day ahead.

2. Exercise does not have to be a continual amount of time. Try doing 10 mins in the morning and maybe 10 mins at night. Split up the time anyway you want to accommodate your schedule. You can always find time to squeeze in a 10-minute workout. There are some great 10-minute DVD series on the market.

# While you are brushing your teeth, try doing two minutes of squats. Then lunge down the hall a few times and while making breakfast or dinner perform sets of push-ups against the counter.

# When you are at work try to take the stairs instead of the elevator as much as you can, this will help you burn more calories throughout your day.
# Park your car further away from your destination that way you need to walk a little further to get there.

# Take a gym bag to work and during lunch or right after work hit the gym. If you go home first it is more likely that you will get distracted and then never make it to the gym.
# Try doing sit-ups, holding a plank position, or push-ups during each commercial while you are watching television. There are at least three or four commercials during each break…that’s three to four minutes of exercise you can sneak into your day.

# Go for a long walk with your kids after dinner or take a bike ride. They will love spending that time with you.

# Sometimes I like to turn music on and dance with my kids. They love when I do a freeze dance with them. Kids love to show you their new moves!

# Every Sunday look at your schedule and write down when you will exercise. Make a weekly schedule and don’t make it optional. You wouldn’t dare change a doctor’s appointment you had such a difficult time getting, or that hair appointment with the best stylist in town that you booked weeks ago.
