After two rule making sessions for SB-462 nothing is set in stone, but their has been some updates to our original post. It was said in the last rule making session that SB-462 does not empower the rule making committee to dictate ownership of Florida pain clinics. Also another recommendation was made to make it so all physicians operating in a Florida pain clinic would have the same qualification requirements. So pretty much the medical director wouldn't have to have more credentials than another physician in a multiple physician clinic. Some of the other discussed items were making the registration fee 1,500 dollars, but not to be paid until all laws are in place and inspection occurs.

For credentialing there were numerous suggestions with nothing definitive set, but 50 hours of pain management training per year with the physician having 12-18 months to complete seemed to be the most realistic. As for Doctors being grandfathered in or having to have further qualifications no decision was made. It appears a lot of the Florida office surgery rules will be used as a guide for developing the Florida pain management clinic laws. Ft. Myers pain management clinic feels that these new laws are a step in the right direction and surely supports the prescription monitoring system that could be in place as early as next year. This is a very brief overview of the minutes from the last rule making session. For more information on SB-462 and Florida pain clinics got to Florida board of medicine and read the minutes from the rule making sessions.
