There are thousands of ways to get those sexy washboard abs you have always yearned for. With so many home based workout routines such as the p90x and the hip hop abs fitness program, it is getting easier by the day. Most of these workouts lay a strong emphasis on eating well and diet plays a major role in your weight-loss odyssey. In this write up, we would be looking at an ancient Indian art of feeding yourself- called the Ayurveda- which is a good complimentary diet and can be followed with any workout plan you are pursuing.
Ayurveda has been around for thousands of years and has its origins in India. It is basically a holistic system of healing one's diseases using healthy food and some ancient herbs (most of which are commonly available or replaceable by other ingredients). The basic motto of Ayurveda is to lead a healthy life of well-being without taking external medical aid and by just focusing on the right nutrition. Basically, "ayur" means life and "Veda" means knowledge and therefore, the term Ayurveda means the "knowledge of life". The whole concept of Ayurveda revolves around the fact that our body consists of five natural elements- air, fire, water, earth and space. The gurus of Ayurveda believed that these elements are present in every part of out natural environment, including our food. Therefore, by eating something that has the right proportion of these elements, we can stay fit and remain healthy without having to look forward to conventional medicine. The use of Ayurvedic diet is therefore, beneficial to those undergoing a fitness program as it is one of the most balanced diet forms available today. Apart from Ayurveda, there are specific diets which have been designed to give your abs the kick you had always wanted. The most common strategy taken by most health trainers all over the world is to introduce 5 or 6 smaller meals and eliminate 3 large meals. Snacking is good at times, and there is virtually no starving involved in such diets. The basic principle around which these diets revolve is that they make you feel stuffed throughout the day, but in reality, you end up consuming fewer calories than you would otherwise have if you had followed your 3 meal diet plan. The six meals are planned in such that you have three main meals, as usual, and you snack 2 hours prior to each meal. With this setup, you will not feel hungry throughout the day, and the snacks and the meals are so designed that you do not end up bloating with calories. Most of these meals revolve around lean proteins- turkey, ducks and chicken are some of the most common lean meats available. Fish is also a good option for snacking, as it contains a huge reservoir of the "good" cholesterol levels, which are great for the well being of your heart. You can include negative calorie foods like cucumber, water melon and apples to your snacks and couple them with soy based food items to prepare a delicious salad for the snack. About the Author
