High Blood Pressure Is Easier To Control In The Summer

Submitted by scottjames

It would appear that High Blood Pressure or certainly the incidences of high blood pressure have more of a seasonal influence than had been first thought of.

Now this association may have something to do with seasonal weight gain and the ability or inability to reverse any weight gain acquired during the winter.

The findings that support this theory have been published in a study in the United States recently and the report concerning US military veteran’s suffering from hypertension or high blood pressure in 15 cities. The study covered a five-year period and covered cities from as far apart as Anchorage in Alaska in the north and San Juan in Puerto Rico in the south.

Overall it was found that about 60% of the patients taking part in this study had a marked change in blood pressure control in the winter.

Now researchers haven't necessarily figured out just what is causing this but it does seem to be beyond being powered purely by changes in temperature and daylight that occurred during the winter or are influenced by the latitude of the city taking part.

What is it about high blood pressure that makes it a problem and when ignored so lethal?

In 19 out of every 20 cases the sufferer will be totally unaware that they suffer from high blood pressure.

The apparent ignorance and lack of diagnosis of high blood pressure, leading for years in some cases has lead to the condition being dubbed the “Silent Killer”.

If spotted there are a couple of signs that can be attributed to high blood pressure and if these are observed and with out apparent cause then they should not be left untreated.

Some of the following can be found to be included as symptoms: Nosebleeds , Fainting Spells, Morning Headache , Increased frequency of urinating at night.

Though the above can indicate high blood pressure it has to be emphasised that they might just as easily indicate other associate conditions.

What does high blood pressure mean?

Well, if we are to go back to basics then the body’s major tissues and organs are supplied and fed with blood pumped to them from the heart via a network of hose like vessels called arteries.

In nine cases out of ten then the particular cause of high blood pressure is hard to identify and as such in these cases the high blood pressure is termed “Primary (Essential) High Blood Pressure”.

For those whose incidences of high blood pressure fall outside of the category described above then if the cause of the high blood pressure can be traced directly to one particular failing organ etc then the cause can usually be dealt with and as such the “Secondary High Blood Pressure” can accordingly be treated quite successfully.

In less than 10% of the incidences of high blood pressure diagnosed, the diagnosis falls into the category known as “Malignant Hypertension”. Quite often this is discovered totally by accident and may be as a result of an associate test such as an eye test whereby the Optician can sometimes detect the condition by merely looking into a patients eye.
