Home Help with Burns

Burns can happen in many different ways and can certainly be traumatic. They can be caused by fire, chemicals, steam electricity and any other form of heat transfer to the skin. There are three types of burns which are classified by their severity.

First Degree Burns

These are burns to the top layer of the skin, whereby the area becomes red and painful.

Second Degree Burns

These are whereby the burn goes deeper which in effect damages more layers of the skin and the skin becomes painful and blistered.

Third Degree Burns

These are very serious burns, whereby the entire thickness of the skin is destroyed, along with muscle and tissue damage.

There are various home remedies available for first and second degree burns. However, never attempt to treat a third degree burn yourself.

Some of the home remedies for burns include:

Rubbing the burn with Aloe Vera leaves will help to relieve pain and inflammation. It is a natural speed healer. It is always advised to have an Aloe Vera plant in your home. If you cannot find a natural Aloe Vera plant, then it is possible to purchase bottles of natural Aloe Vera nowadays.

It is essential to keep yourself hydrated.

Witch Hazel can be applied to the burn to reduce pain and swelling.

If your burn wound is seeping, then rub it with crushed blackberries, as they are high in tannins, which will stop the seeping.

Calendula is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, which can be applied to heal the wound more quickly and prevent infection.

Comfrey Ointment is yet another product which help the healing of the skin tissue and helps to prevent scarring.

Colloidal silver can be applied to a burn. This is a natural antibiotic and disinfectant.

A lotion which is made with vitamin A can be rubbed onto the burn.

For the formation of collagen, which the skin will require during the healing process, vitamin C should be taken, as it contains the antioxidant which is essential for such collagen formation.

To prevent scarring, vitamin E should be taken.

In order for the wound to heal more quickly, then lavender oil can be applied.

Place the affected area in to chilled water for 10 to 15 minutes, as the reduction in temperature of the burn is essential.

Rinse the area of the burn with ice water and apply honey. Honey is considered to hold healing properties.

In order to remove dead skin cells from the wound, rub it with papaya, as it contains enzymes.

In order to relieve the burning sensation, then toothpaste can be applied to a burn as a temporary measure.

Real butter can be placed onto a burn, if it has developed from boiling water.

Egg white can be applied to minor burns as it contains certain proteins that work on the skin cells which provide a much quicker healing rate.

You can also use lemon juice, sugar and a pinch of salt to treat burns.
