How to Deal with Panic Attacks Naturally

Submitted by markwalters

Panic attacks are quite common even if you suffer from anxiety disorders or not. For most normal people, these attacks are easy enough to cope with it easily. However, for other people, it can be quite difficult. Most of the times, these attacks are remedied by taking anti-anxiety drugs like Buspar.

Mental health professionals believe that these attacks are better dealt with naturally than relying on medications. A lot of people think that this is rather difficult, though. But to give you an idea of how to deal with panic attacks without the use of anti-anxiety drugs, here are some useful techniques:

Set up a reminder for yourself.
Write a note or keep a card in your pocket with a message to remind you that this is just a momentary panic attack and you will not die or go crazy from it. No physical or mental health complications have been known to arise from a panic attack in otherwise healthy people.

Know that you're not the only one.
If you're thinking little of yourself because of these panic attacks, stop. You're not the only one who suffers from such an unusual condition. Roughly 6 million Americans experience this. Now thats 1 in every 75 people. Anyone from the poorest of the poor to the richest celebrity can experience panic attacks. So you're not alone.

Focus on what you're currently doing.
Although you may find it difficult to veer your attention away from the panic attack you're currently experiencing, do lead your focus back to the task you were doing prior to the attack. Regardless of whether the task is something important or not, channeling your focus on it will help you survive the symptoms you're experiencing.

Deflect your anxiety into something worthwhile.
The anxiety you feel during your panic attack actually gives you an extra surge of energy. Why not channel that extra energy into doing something creative, athletic, or at least something better than worrying about something that isn't even there.

Imagine how much better you'd feel if you're able to get over your panic attacks without having to pop potentially addictive anti-anxiety meds. For more natural techniques to get over panic attacks, talk to your trusted mental health professional.
