How To Eliminate Social Phobias And Build Self Confidence

Submitted by alanden

Self confidence is a psychological and emotional state that responds to somebody's need for recognition and self-acceptance. It is one among the oldest and most studied concepts in psychology. It describes a good but nonetheless proper perception of oneself and one's abilities. As such, self-confident people frequently have a better idea of the things they are able to achieve and are more likely to be successful in what they attempt. They are also more likely to accept and learn from their errors.

Contrarily, a lack of confidence can deter you from trusting that what you do and decide will ultimately turn out the way you had planned. It can thus hamper the buildup of executive skills, planning and managerial capacities all of which are fundamental and indispensable skills in the business world of today. The pre-occupation with other people's opinions of your work may also make you become overly self-critical, which will distract you from tasks you would otherwise be totally able to perform.

Low self confidence will also affect your social life, because people with a low level of self confidence tend to stay in their "comfort zone" and are afraid of being rejected. This is called social phobia and has a high degree of co-morbidity with low self confidence, as well as other psychological diseases like depression. People with low self confidence are scared of the judgment of their peers and will avoid meeting new people, which can result in isolation and even less self confidence. Low self confidence is a vicious cycle that's difficult to break.

On the other hand, because they can trust their own abilities, self-confident people are able to do what they feel is appropriate and do not feel the need for the approval of their peers. They also trigger confidence: your relatives, friends, boss, customers or employees are more likely to trust you or the things you are telling them if you appear self-confident.

Numerous experiences can contribute to low self confidence. Recent research indicates that education has an important impact on the development of a child's self confidence. Physical and mental abuses in childhood are for instance the worse for a person's self confidence, as well as family conflicts and divorce. Overprotective parents can also be a reason for a child's social phobia and inhibit the independence required to build self confidence. Successes and failures, for instance at school or in one's professional life, also play a major role: losing a job or failing a class are among the several experiences that will negatively affect your self confidence.

It is however possible to overcome such bad experiences and improve self confidence. The first thing to do in order to build self confidence would be to learn to know who you are and your strengths. Admitting the fact that you cannot be perfect and cannot be the best in everything you do will help you gain self confidence. Accepting who you are is the key to gaining self confidence. But improving self confidence also requires that you start taking risks and giving yourself credit for your achievements. This is very basic advice that will help you improve self confidence. You may also find plenty of books that will claim they can help you gain self confidence, however not all of them are reliable.

A great number of people suffer from low self confidence or are only able to gain self confidence in one or a few areas of their lives because they continually look for other people's approval and are scared of failing. Numerous factors, including childhood traumas, can explain why certain people can't have the wholesome life of a self confident individual. Those people also don't always know how to gain self confidence. But improving self confidence can now readily and effectively be achieved thanks to hypnosis and NLP.

As we have seen low self confidence and social phobia can stem from bad experiences or unconscious fears that are sometimes difficult to overcome with self persuasion only. Confidence hypnosis and NLP on the contrary are able to get to the unconscious part of the brain and modify belief systems to boost self confidence. They are powerful tools that will help you face your fears and believe in yourself to develop self confidence.

Self-Hypnosis for building self confidence has been used for several decades and has shown significant results in building self confidence. In a hypnotized state, getting to unconscious thoughts is much easier and, thanks to hypnotic suggestion, it is possible to replace your negative thought patterns with positive ones to gain self-confidence.
