How to knock halitosis out effectivelySubmitted by mitamins Tue, 1 Apr 2008
Having halitosis not only affects your confidence and your social life, but also your body health. It is suggested, for those experiencing prolonged halitosis, to see a specialist. However, what's the root cause of the disease and what can we do to prevent it from happening? What's an effective halitosis treatment? The causes are complex and can be generally divided into two parts: pathological disease and non-pathological disease. The latter one is superficial and temporary and can be easily eliminated with a natural treatment for halitosis(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Halitosis.html). However a pathological disease is the result of a deeper problem, such as a chronic lung infection, liver or kidney disease, or diabetes. In the case of a pathological disease you would need to cure the root of the problem and this would be a long-term effort.
The truth is, however, most breath odor comes from food particles trapped in our mouths. When pieces from food remain in your mouth, between your teeth, around the gums and on the tongue, a breeding ground for the bacteria which cause bad breath is built. So take care of your gums and teeth, brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth after every meal in order to prevent leftover food particles. By the way, remember to brush your tongue, which is an ideal place for bacteria to breed. If you don't, leftover food can rot. Rotten food can cause bacteria to grow in your mouth, and the bacteria can multiply, causing bad breath. In terms of the food that causes bad breath, you might be thinking of things such as onions and garlic. In fact these are the common foods that are well-known to cause bad breath after being eaten. These foods are absorbed into our bloodstream, and then transferred to our lungs and exhaled, thus the halitosis(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Halitosis.html). Bevereages such as orange juice and soda can also cause halitosis. Self-medicate to prevent it! Just as the beginning mentions, halitosis is not a certain disease, and take some helpful advice and follow it, maybe halitosis would never bother your life again. The following are some tips on halitosis treatment(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Halitosis.html). # Teeth health: brush your teeth as well as your gums and tongue after every meal. Fluoride toothpaste is useful. In addition, use mouthwash, swishing it around in your mouth for 30 seconds to loosen food particles which bacteria can feed upon. # Proper foods: avoid foods that cause bad breath such as onions and garlic, especially if you need to meet people. Also avoid tobacco products and alcohol and caffeine consumption. # Water consumption: A dry mouth can produce an unpleasant odor, so if you your mouth is dry, chew sugarless gum or suck on sugar-free mints to increase the flow of saliva, or drink more water. # Long-term efforts: Be patient; halitosis can't be treated overnight. # See the doctor: Have regular check-ups with your dentist. Cooperate with the doctor and adjust your diet according to him or her. About the Author
