How To Protect Your Eyes When Using the Computer

Submitted by bigeater2000

Anybody who sits for long periods of time in front of the PC at work every day has doubtless encountered some pain in the eyes, and negative effects on their sight. I spend a good 12 hours a day at the computer pretty much each day, and after 1 or 2 months of that I began to undergo a marginally agonizing burning feeling in my eyes when I was using the computer ; my eyes felt dry and scratchy ; I could feel waste wiggling around in my eye socket, beside and in back of my eyeballs ; and I started seeing some eye floaters, which are black dots that float around in your vision, in addition to some dark shadows and intermittent light flashes when I moved my eyes. Of course I was in a little bit of a panic, since this was the 1st time I had ever experienced any eye problems. In my efforts to deal with this issue I learned a few things computer users can do to protect their eyes and maintain their health and strength. Note that I'm not a physician, these are just some remedies that I researched and found them personally really helpful.

The single most significant element in lowering eye strain and its numerous successive issues was to begin lowering my computer screen's brightness. I had always believed that the default brightness was the best, and was the default because it was the the safest for our eyes. How incorrect I was. The very day that I first lowered my screen brightness, my eyes' burning feeling was decreased by around 90%. I still get it a bittowards the end of my work day, but it comes much later and it is much less severe than before. How much I turn down the screen brightness is decided by the room's brightness. When the room is darkly lit, I dim the screen quite a bit to correspond to the room's brightness. If the room is more brightly lit then I don't decrease the screen brightness as much, but I still lower the default brightness by a few button pushes. I urge you to be active and start reducing your screen brightness before you begin to have Problems.

The second important factor has been to make sure my eyes are hydrated. Your eyes can easily get dry when you're making them work strenuously, and this could worsen your eye strain and cause more discomfort and anxiety. All of those little itches and movements you feel when you don't keep your eyes hydrated can be pretty scary, like there's something moving around inside. But truly it's a result of the lack of moisture. So I recommend you buy some eyedrops and apply a couple of drops to each eye every few hours, or whenever your eyes get dry or itchy. Fancy eyedrops are not necessary, merely a basic vitamin eye drop is good. Some eye drops contain eucalyptus, that has a cooling feeling that may provide relief when you have a burning sensation in your eyes. A second crucial part of keeping your eyes hydrated is just drinking a sufficient amount of water and eating hydrogenated foods such as fruit and vegetables. During the work day it can be simple to drink nothing except coffee, but you should know that coffee is a diuretic which removes water from your body including your eyes. So be sure you drink plenty of water.

One final thing you can do to keep your eyes feeling good and strong is to eat blueberries or blueberry extract. Inside blueberries there are anthocyans, a type of bioflavanoid that is absorbed quickly into the brain, and has a fast result on your vision. So if you're feeling heavy eyestrainand need fast relief, in addition to eye drops I'd reccommend you consume some blueberries or blueberry extract capsules. I am taking 2 blueberry extract tablets every day for ongoing eye health, and I take an extra dose every time I notice some heavy strain. There are also antioxydants inside blueberries that help forestall cancer and are very healthy in general.

The above three elementss are the things that have specifically helped me get over my eye issues. Living a healthy way of life in general is also critical. As an example, floaters, shadows and light flashes occur much more when I haven't gotten a good night's sleep. When I sleep well they're almost gone completely. So use the above techniques and remember to always keep your fitness as your number one concern.
