How To Treat Panic Attacks

Submitted by LaraNadezda

Panic attack is as bad it was always. But you may hit it hard to winnow it out from your system. Continue reading this article, and you will learn how to manage OCD.

Treating Panic Attacks

Panic attacks can be treated in some various methods - Cognitive Therapy, Behavioral Therapy , or other medications. A combination of Cognitive therapy, Behavioral therapy, and prescribed medicines may as well be implemented to cure panic attacks. Other therapy of panic attack is passing through psychodynamic therapy; however, it could handle only a few aspects of anxiety disorder.

More about Cognitive Therapy (CT) and Behavioral Therapy (BT)

Behavioral therapy and CBT therapy are carried out by using special method called ritual prevention and exposure (it is also called to as ERP - Exposure and Response Prevention). This method entails increasingly learning the tactics and means to bear the anxiety associated with not performing the ritual manners. In other words, that is struggling on how to deal with panic attacks.

Medications

Some of the medicines that is included in panic attack cure are selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors or SSRIs such as paroxetine (Paxil, Aropax), sertraline (Zoloft), fluvoxamine (Luvox), and fluoxetine (Prozac). However, what could selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors do? It's just simple! Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors put a stop to excess serotonin going back into the neuron that discharged it. Serotonins attach to the receptor sites closed by neurons to take chemical signals that alleviate too much anxiety.

A combination of SSRI and clomipramine can confirm to be truly effective in some panic attack cases. But in a good number of cases (even in the cases not recommended for treatment), antidepressant medications works well.

Other Medications

Panic attack treatment may incorporate some other medicines as well. These medicines could be memantine, risperidone (Risperdal), quetiapine (Seroquel), atypical antipsychotics olanzapine (Zyprexa), riluzole, lamotrigine (Lamictal), gabapentin (Neurontin)

The latest study discovered that opioids may also help alleviate anxiety disorder symptoms. However, due to their addictive property, these drugs may be a bit dicey. However, there is some anecdotal sign with regards to self-medication with opioids like Ultram and Vicodin. Tramadol is up till now another atypical opioid that has only mild side-effects and gives anti panic results of an opiate.

However, in some situations, both psychological treatments and medication support groups fail to control symptoms of panic attack. For such patients, psychosurgery (that involves creating a surgical lesion in the brain) is the only choice left. According to a study, 30% of patients take advantage from it.

Panic attacks are terrifying but luckily, they're physically not dangerous episodes. Understanding what to do in certain situations and certainly, getting rid of what may trigger the attack is best to prevent panic attacks.
