Hyperthyroidism: Common but TreatableSubmitted by mitamins Mon, 28 Jan 2008
Hyperthyroidism is more common in women than in men, especially in women in their 30's and 40's. Though hyperthyroidism can occur at any age, it is most likely to develop after the age of 15.
The thyroid gland controls the rate at which processes in the digestive system occur. These processes are collectively known as "metabolism". The thyroid regulates the speed at which the body burns calories and energy by secreting a hormone. The most common cause of hyperthyroidism(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Hyperthyroidism.html) is Grave's Disease, a condition accounting for 70-80% of hyperthyroidism cases. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland releases too much thyroid hormone, or is "over-active". This results in a speeding-up of the body's processes, including the speeding up of the function of the organs and intestines. This can result in an increased appetite as well as weight loss, and other symptoms such as anxiety, fatigue, hyperactivity, and an intolerance to heat. Other symptoms include depression, irritability, and anxiety. The natural treatment of hyperthyroidism(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Hyperthyroidism.html) targets these symptoms. Some patients also report heart palpitations. In addition, there are some ocular, and there is a condition called the hyperthyroid "stare". This symptom can be improved with treatment of hyperthyroidism. Sometimes the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are not all present, there may only be two symptoms showing: the most prevalent, weight loss and fatigue. Natural treatment of hyperthyroidism can be effective. Treatment of Hyperthyroidism Certain vegetables can exacerbate hyperthyroidism, natural treatment of hyperthyroidism can happen by avoiding such vegetables. These foods include rapeseed (used to make canola oil); Brassica vegetables (cabbage, Brussel sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower, which contain natural goitrogens, chemicals that cause the thyroid gland to enlarge by interfering with thyroid hormone synthesis). Other goitrogens that naturally enhance thyroid gland activation include maize, sweet potatoes, lima beans, soy and pearl millet. None of these foods has been proven to cause hyperthyroidism, though some doctors do advise avoiding these foods in the natural treatment of hyperthyroidism(http://www.mitamins.com/disease/Hyperthyroidism.html). Vitamin B Complex 50 is used in the treatment of Hyperthyroidism as it contains a variety of components required for a normally functioning thyroid. Thiamin is involved in energy production. Riboflavin and Flaxseed are necessary for the normal glandular functions. Vitamin B6 has the ability to activate many relevant enzymes. Lecithin is used in the treatment of Hyperthyroidism as it aids fat digestion and also has shown a protecting effect on cells. Ester C is an anti-stress vitamin. Vitamin E, is a widely known antioxidant that helps to improve oxygen utilization. Complete Multivitamin Mix supplies a wide variety of nutrients to meet the heightened demand and therefore important in the treatment of Hypothyroidism. About the Author
