improve memory

How strong is YOUR memory

Prior to starting, as you start developing your memory it is a great idea to have a little fun and find out just how strong your memorisation powers are right now. Doing this short test will show you where your memory is strongest - eg., you remember things well or you remember the order of things better. Of course it will also show you where you memory needs to have a bit of practise.
Consider - if you don't use it - you lose it!!
Cognitive psychologists have come to the conclusion that we memorize things by fusing a certain part of them with additional information. For instance, on visiting to an old family or your old institutionmay have seen that that looking ata certain image on the wall, or a specific piece of furniture, etc., made you 'suddenly recollect' things that you would otherwise, have utterly forgotten. Your psyche was connecting all the ideas and images that had been connected with the thing at which you were gazing. This assumption applies, no matter how full of twists and turns the memory situation is. Even when recalling complicated algebraic formulas or very abstract ideas, there is a link in the background whichstarts offthe recollection you want.

Study the catalog of 20 objects once through, and then at once cover it upor close the page. On a fresh piece of paper list as many of them as you can dredge up, attempting to get them in the right order. Score yourself in two ways:

* The number of items you remembered out of 20
* The number of items that you listed in the correct order (if you reversed certain items they are both wrong with regard to the second score! J Sorry!).

Beaker
Supermarket
Chimney pot
Judge
Overnight case

Mountain
Man

Hedge clippers

Score: Number remembered ..................................................
Number in correct order.......................................
