There are many forms of addictions and one that is definitely affecting most people at the moment is internet addiction.
The internet is a useful resource when it comes to getting information but nowadays people use it for many other things. You can find games to play, listen to music, and find movies to watch among other things but with the introduction of social networking sites, people are always online chatting with friends and people they have never seen but juts met online. The problem is that it is very easy to get addicted to the internet such that you cannot control how much time you spend there. Internet addiction is now being regarded as a form of disorder and most people who are idle are more prone to getting addicted to the internet. You may not realize when you have such an addiction but there are always signs for any type of addiction that could help you know whether you have the problem or not. When you start preferring to chat with virtual friends than spending time talking to people then you might be addicted to the internet. Sometimes people might start to complain about the time you spend on the computer and the internet and this should be a sign that you might be getting addicted. You could also be addicted if you find that instead of facing your life problems, you prefer to sit at your computer and surf the internet. This is a way of escaping problems so you don't have to face them and sooner or later as the problems pile up, you find that you cannot move away from your computer for a long time. You have become addicted and should start finding ways to overcome it. Most people who are internet addicted feel very uncomfortable when they stay for a day or two without accessing the internet and this could also be a sign of psychological disorder. Internet addiction is serious problem and if you cannot prevent it on your own, professional assistance may help. The best way to overcome this type of addiction is to find something to keep you busy with or develop other interest to engage in. If you are idle, you could instead join a sports club or any group of your choice and become an active participant. With time, you reduce the amount of time you are idle and you will not be tempted every five minutes to open and check your mails even when you know there is nothing to expect. Make an effort of meeting with people to talk to about issues and get away from the computer as much as you can. If you have a psychological or emotional problem making you use more time with the computer, it is important to identify it and see a psychologist if you can't deal with it.
