Animals may do the funniest things, but in the real world some animals can do some very painful and dangerous things to people, often unintentionally.

One of the most common types of injuries caused by animals is attacks by dogs, which sadly are still very common in the UK. Irresponsible dog owners can breed their dogs to act as guard dogs, or attack dogs, by tormenting and starving them to make them more aggressive. This invariably leads to the dogs acting up and attacking people, and sadly often children, when the opportunity arises. It's not the fault of the dogs, but the owners, and such victims of dog attacks are able to seek compensation for their injuries against the owners.

Smaller animals such as cats also cause injuries when they cause their owners to trip over them. This type of injury is common, but isn't something that can lead to a compensation claim. On the other hand, bites in certain circumstances can lead to compensation.

Another animal that often causes unintentional injuries is the horse, as many riders suffer broken bones, such as the neck or spine, when they're thrown from their horse. This famously happened to Superman actor Christopher Reeve, who was paralysed from the neck down in an accident while playing Polo.

As pet owners, it is their responsibility to ensure their animals do not cause harm to others and if they do, then there is often the possibility of a claim for compensation.
