When people talk about dietary fiber, they immediately think of older people taking large fiber tablets. The truth is, proper fiber intake can benefit everyone at any age. Fiber intake can help ease digestion and it can also lower cholesterol, which is a leading cause of heart disease, making it a highly effective, multi-purpose treatment for healthy living.

What's interesting about fiber is that it isn't an essential nutrient in the sense that a body absolutely requires it for survival or adds something missing from the body. Instead, dietary fiber is a nutrient that helps act against harmful processes such as blood sugar variations, high cholesterol, and digestive discomfort.

Soluble vs. Insoluble

As far as dietary fiber is concerned, there are two types; soluble and insoluble. These have different effects that are all essential to a healthy body.

Both types of fiber provide bulk to any meal, lending to a feeling of fullness. This can reduce appetite and lead to eating smaller portions that can help weight control as well as provide the other digestive benefits expected of fibers.

Soluble Fiber prevents constipation by keeping the body's digestion process regular and steady. It also reduces the time digestive toxins remain in the system, which promotes a healthier digestive system as a whole. It helps regulate the pH of the intestines, helping prevent the development of colon cancer.

Soluble fiber also bonds with water to form a gel that limits the absorption of glucose, which keeps blood sugar stable and limits spikes or valleys in your glucose level. This helps reduce the possibility of metabolic syndrome (a combination of medical disorders that increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease) or the onset of diabetes.

It is soluble fiber that lowers cholesterol, both the total cholesterol and the low-density lipoprotein, (LDL or "bad" cholesterol) which leads to heart disease. Cholesterol builds up in the walls of the arteries, which carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body. This results in a hardening of the arteries, known as atherosclerosis. Blood flow is drastically reduced, blood pressure rises, and oxygen carried to the heart is reduced. This puts extra strain on the entire system, eventually leading to heart attacks or outright heart failure. In many ways, controlling the level of LDL cholesterol in the body is the most beneficial result of proper soluble fiber intake.

Green vegetables such as peas and various beans, oats, and rye are good sources of soluble fiber. Good fruits include the inside of apples and pears, as well as bananas, plums and prunes. Oats, barley, and rye are good grain sources, and the skins of root vegetables such as sweet potatoes and carrots can also be beneficial. Stringy green vegetables like broccoli and artichokes shouldn't be neglected either.

Insoluble fiber also helps keep the digestive system's pH in balance, reducing gastric acid buildup and keeping the digestive system regular. Irregular bowel function is more than an inconvenience - it can also lead to dehydration and lower gastro-intestinal tract injury. Regular body function also helps reduce physical and emotional stress, further contributing to overall wellness.

Whole grain foods are an important source of insoluble fiber. It may be a good idea to switch out your artificially enriched sweet white bread for organic, whole grain breads made with 100% wheat and grains. Nuts and seeds are another good source of insoluble fiber that can be had as a tasty snack instead of a heavy meal. Just make sure they aren't heavy in salts.

How Much is Enough?

Dietary recommendations for a 2000-calorie daily diet include twenty to thirty five grams per day. Children have different needs, however, and it is recommended that they should have a number of grams equal to their age plus five (so an eight year old would require 13 grams per day).

The elderly and the ill have their own requirements. Certain medications such as painkillers can interact in unexpected ways with fiber, so a doctor should be consulted in these cases.

Making the Commitment

Dietary fiber is an important nutrient. However, as with many commitments to better health, it doesn't require a complete dietary change. Instead, the best method is to gradually include new sources of fiber into your existing diet. Consider trading white bread for a whole grain loaf and replacing chip or cracker snacks with high-fiber, low salt nuts. Vegetables and fruits that are high in fiber can also be blended into smoothies or shakes, making getting your daily fiber as easy as having a healthy beverage at the beginning and the end of each day.

Perhaps the best advice is to take a look at what you're already eating, talk to a dietician, and modify your diet to fit your personal needs. There are dozens of resources available for research on nutritional information, from government and independent sources alike. The results of these changes will definitely be helpful, leaving you nothing to lose but poor health.

--
Janet Davis and her husband are health and nutrition entrepreneurs.
The influenza virus A(H1N1) is certainly a hot topic today. However, November 13, 2009 will be a Friday 13th, the third and last of this year. However, the fear of number 13 [triskaidekaphobia], especially of Friday the 13th [paraskevidekatriaphobia], is the very international and tenacious superstition, the most prevalent in Western culture. Engineers and architects are fuelling this superstition: with skyscrapers, hotels without the 13th floor or room 13 (which becomes 12bis or 14a) and lifts without the 13th floor, and with airplanes without row or seat no. 13, and so on. ... Unfortunately, there has no year without at least one Friday 13th. Note that the word "superstitious" has 13 letters! ... Moreover, issues relating to the myth of Friday the 13th are recurrent because every year, as normal as leap, has at least one Friday 13th and up to a maximum of three Fridays 13th. So, there is no end to hear about it. The annual maximum of 3 Fridays 13th is reached if the first day of the year falls on a Thursday (for normal year, 28 days in February) or on a Sunday (for leap year, 29 days in February).

For each Friday 13th, losses are estimated at over one billion dollars in the USA, representing a global shortfall of 3 billions for years with 3 Fridays 13th. In that fateful day, the most superstitious [they are over 20 millions in the USA, according to Dr. Donald Dossey] do not dare to leave their homes, will not go at work, postpone running errands, going shopping and travel, do not take aircraft, not signing contracts, and so on. For more details on this subject, the reader may consult the book "Mythe du Vendredi 13" or "Myth of Friday the 13th" [ISBN 0-973738-01-4], free electronic version at the link www.vendredi13.us or www.vendredi13.co.nr . This website has become the global reference on the subject, as to be ranked first page in the Google search engine (it is just sufficient to type the expression "vendredi 13").

As for virus A(H1N1), it is therefore important to guard against this other annual and recurrent headache or Friday 13th virus. To this end, Taliscope Inc. offers free vaccine against the next Friday the 13th, based on a magic square of order 4 whose first row is November 13, 2009 ----> 13/11/2009

13-------11------20------09

21-------8-------14------10

7--------18------13------15

12-------16------6-------19

The sum of each of the 4 rows, 4 columns and 2 diagonals of this talisman-square, vaccine against Friday 13th, is 53. This magic total is whenever equal to the sum of four terms of the sub-central square, of order 2x2, bounded by the outside rows and columns.

Lines ----> 13 + 11 + 20 + 09 = 21 + 8 + 14 + 10 = 7 + 18 + 13 + 15 = 12 + 16 + 6 + 19 = 53
Columns ----> 13 + 21 + 7 + 12 = 11 + 8 + 18 + 16 + = 20 + 14 + 13 + 6 = 9 + 10 + 15 + 19 = 53
Diagonals ----> 13 + 8 + 13 + 19 = 12 + 18 + 14 + 9 = 53
Sub-central squared ----> 8 + 14 + 18 + 13 = 53

Next Friday 13th, to avoid losing the north, carry on you your square-talisman. Being of order 4, it will allow you, with chance, to keep control on all the 4 cardinal points (north, south, east and west) ! …

Remember also that Taliscope or Talisman-Horoscope, a brand new tool of divination, combines several occult sciences as clairvoyance, esotericism and astrology, then to find easily all the lucky days of the year. Taliscope also offers a daily effective talisman, consisting of a 4x4 magic square (4 rows and 4 columns), whose first line contains all the numbers from the current date of the day of your choice.

For more information, see the website Taliscope.com .

--
Tito, Economist, Ph.D. / Webmaster of:

Taliscope
666 Myth

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Skin Tears and Treatment through Wound Be Gone

The skin is the largest organ of the body and often the most forgotten. Skin is exposed daily to numerous environmental risks of irritants and chemicals, as well as to physical and mechanical injury. One such injury is a skin tear, defined as a traumatic wound resulting from separation of the epidermis from the dermis. It is usually related to friction and/or shear force.

How are skin tears caused?

When skin tears are reported to healthcare professionals, the cause of the injury often is not known. When the cause is known, they are often linked to the following events: wheelchair injuries (25%), blunt trauma from accidentally bumping into objects (25%), transfers (18%), and falls (12.4%). It has also been concluded that the key times when skin tears occur are during peak activity hours, from 6:00 to 11:00 am and from 3:00 to 9:00 pm. Skin tears result from shearing, friction, or blunt trauma that causes separation of skin layers. The subsequent wounds are partial- or full-thickness, depending on the degree of tissue damage. Subtle skin changes associated with aging increase the risk of skin tear development and interfere with the healing of the skin tear. Aging skin undergoes a process in which it experiences dermal and subcutaneous tissue loss, epidermal thinning, and serum composition changes, which cause decreased skin surface moisture. The skin's elasticity and tensile strength decrease as these other changes occur. Dehydration, poor nutrition, cognitive impairment, altered mobility, and decreased sensation can also increase skin tear risk.

Skin tears are a painful, yet preventable problem. In the United States, reports show that 1.5 million skin tears occur each year in institutionalized adults. These types of wounds pose a potentially serious and painful problem for the older adult population, who are at a higher risk for skin tears. Such wounds can cause stress to both patients and their families. The result of the physical changes associated with aging and coexisting illnesses can be very difficult to manage. Thus, it is imperative that healthcare professionals identify those at risk for skin tears and establish plans of care that will address prevention, as well as evidence-based management of these wounds. Compared with more extensive and costly chronic ulcers, skin tears are often seen as minor, inconsequential wounds. But in reality, these wounds are painful and can lead to potential complications if not treated appropriately.

How can skin tears be prevented?

Following should be considered if patient is at risk of having a skin tear:

• Educate staff on the importance of carefully handling elderly patients with
frail skin. Any harsh movement or pulling can create a skin tear.
• Encourage proper positioning, turning, lifting, and transferring techniques
to prevent friction or shear. A lift sheet should be used to move and
turn patients. If the patient is being cared for at home, make sure the
home health care assistants and the patient's family caregivers understand
these techniques.
• Provide padding to bed rails, wheelchair arm and leg supports, and any
other equipment that may be utilized to protect the patient from
accidentally bumping into a hard surface.
• Use pillows and blankets to support arms and legs.
• Recommend that patients wear long sleeves and pants for added protection.
• Use paper tape or a non-adherent dressing on frail skin and gently remove it.
Or use stockinet, gauze wrap, or any other similar type of wrap instead of
tape to secure dressings and drains.
• Apply a moisturizing agent to dry skin to keep it adequately hydrated. Creams
and topical gels are better than lotions.
• Provide a well-lit environment to minimize the risk of patients bumping
into equipment or furniture.

Wound be gone is a breakthrough invention in healing wounds such as skin tears. It wondrous and unique principle is totally different from current healing products. Wound be gone has no side effects and doesn't contain any kind of biological material or antibiotics. It is safe to use by people of any age. It supports moist healing so the need to use bandages in not required. Its other plus point is that it prevents the wound from getting infected.

--
Wound-Be-Gone Blog
Wake Pharma US, Inc.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

The Role of Wound Be Gone in Healing Puncture Wounds

A puncture wound is caused by an object piercing the skin and creating a small hole. Some punctures are just on the surface. Others can be very deep, depending on the source and cause. A puncture wound does not usually result in excessive bleeding. Usually, these wounds close fairly quickly on their own. Treatment may be necessary to prevent infection. A puncture wound from a cause such as stepping on a nail can become infected because the object that caused the wound may carry bacteria or spores of tetanus into the skin and tissue.

What causes a puncture? Common causes of puncture wounds are wood splinters, pins, nails and glass. These wounds can also be caused by scissors and knives. Any sharp object can potentially cause a punctured wound.

The object causing the puncture may have germs on it, which can easily penetrate into the tissues and cause further complications. Puncture wounds usually cause pain and mild bleeding at the site of the puncture, bleeding is actually beneficial as it helps carry out the dirt out of the wound. This kind of wound usually takes 2 days to 2 weeks to heal, depending on the depth. Most of the time these wounds are not stitched closed because of the danger of infection.

If the puncture wound gets infected then that might cause swelling, redness, pus or watery discharge may occur if the wound is not treated properly. Medical help should be taken if the wound will not stop bleeding after 5 minutes of direct pressure or is spurting blood. If the wound is caused by nail, pen or pencil then medical advice should be taken to see if the wound condition is serious. If part of the object is still inside the wound then medical help should be taken immediately.

A person should be taken to hospital in following conditions:

• If the wound is in head, chest or abdomen, unless it is very small.
• If there is loss of feeling, numbness, or inability to move an arm or leg
below the wound.
• If the wound is more than 24 hours old and you develop signs of infection,
such as redness at the area of the wound, swelling, pus drainage, fever
over 100°F, or red streaks coming away from the wound.
• If the wound does not stop bleeding after pressure is applied for 5 minutes.
• If the wound has part of an object remaining in it, such as a pencil tip,
nail, or piece of glass.
• If a lot of dirt remains in the wound.
• If the wound is gaping or there is white tissue (fatty tissue) or muscle visible.
• If a person has a chronic medical condition, such as diabetes, or if steroids
are taken.

Because puncture wounds are especially prone to infection, it is extremely important to clean the wound well and to keep it clean by soaking it several times a day. The doctor may give a tetanus shot if the person has not had one in the past 5 to 10 years. If a person thinks there might still be something in the wound, then an x-ray is conducted. The wound should be soaked in warm water and a suitable ointment should be applied over it.

Wound be gone is a revolutionary topical gel, suitable to be used for any kinds of acute and chronic wounds. Its patented active ingredient helps the wound to heal faster and without scarring. Wound be gone has no antibiotics in and its other quality is that it doesn't have any side effects. It's transparent, that means the wound can be checked without even the need of taking off the bandage.

--
Wound-Be-Gone Blog
Wake Pharma US, Inc.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Cerebral Palsy Symptoms and Treatment

Cerebral palsy is a term that is used to describe a range of disorders that affect the body's balance, posture and movement. Cerebral palsy can be translated into the terms "brain paralysis" and is caused by abnormal developments in the brain.
One of the first signs that an infant has cerebral palsy is by delayed milestones that require the use of the large motor skills and head control. These include rolling over, sitting unsupported, crawling, or walking. As infants with cerebral palsy begin to get older, they still show strong signs of reflexes that were once present at birth, such as being startled by loud noises and jerking during their sleep cycles.

Infants and toddlers with cerebral palsy will also begin to display a preference over one hand before the age of 18 months. This can be an indication that one side of the body has stronger muscle control, while the other has weaker control.
As the nervous system matures, more obvious symptoms begin to occur. The muscles are abnormal and inconsistent, sometimes being very stiff and sometimes being very relaxed. For these reasons, people with cerebral palsy will move their limbs in unusual positions. In addition, movements can be abrupt or slow moving.

Another symptom of cerebral palsy is difficulty speaking and swallowing. This is because it is difficult to move and control the muscles of the mouth, tongue and throat. Because some people with cerebral palsy suffer from mental retardation, seizures, hearing and vision loss can also be symptoms.
When diagnosing cerebral palsy symptoms, it is important to remember that all the symptoms vary from mild to severe. The type of brain damage which has occurred will determine how severe and apparent the symptoms are.
While there is no cure for cerebral palsy, there are many treatments that help to reduce the symptoms and can even reduce certain disabilities associated with the disorder. Most commonly, physical therapy sessions are given to help strengthen the muscles. Stretching and toning exercises are done to increase flexibility and control. Occupational therapy is also beneficial and teaches patients how to go about their day-to-day routine to be as independent as possible.
Various medications can also be used to help reduce the symptoms of cerebral palsy. Some are used to work directly on the brain so that a patient can gain muscle control. Others work at relaxing the muscles and prevent them from making jerky movements. Finally, medications can be used to work directly on certain symptoms including seizures, vision loss and difficulty eating.

--
Dos your baby have some of the symptoms mentioned about Cerebral Palsy?
Causes of Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral Palsy is a condition that affects somewhere between 800,000 and 1,000,000 Americans currently in the United States. It is not a disease, per se, but rather an injury that causes damage to the cerebrum, which in turn affects the motor skills of the patient.

Cerebral Palsy can be caused by a variety of reasons, mostly having to do with something going wrong during pregnancy. Most common causes are asphyxiation or not enough oxygen reaching the fetus, infections during the pregnancy, blood disease, and other similar birth defects. It is caused especially by the underdevelopment of the fetus's brain while in the womb, so the disease can be prevented by receiving the appropriate medical attention during and following pregnancy.

Cerebral Palsy can be acquired after birth through head injuries, infections, or meningitis if any of these conditions are left untreated. If the baby is born with jaundice and it goes untreated it can result in congenital cerebral palsy. There are also several avoidable causes including lead poisoning, shaken baby syndrome, choking on foreign objects, and near drowning.

Cerebral Palsy is a very serious condition that should be caught and treated early on or avoided if possible. If you suspect there is something wrong with your child before or after pregnancy, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor. Symptoms include balance problems, unsteady movement, paralysis, seizures, spasms, and involuntary muscle movements. Most cerebral palsy patients are normal intellectually, though they may have motor difficulties.

There is currently no known cure for Cerebral Palsy, but there are several therapy techniques that allow the patient to live an easier day-to-day life. Treatments may include physical therapy, drugs to combat muscle spams and seizures, surgery, and braces to support muscles. The brain damage does not get worse over time, however symptoms of the disease such as seizures and spasms can indeed become more severe.

The positive news is that most of the causes of cerebral palsy are completely preventable. There are some accidental cases that are not preventable nor is it possible to foresee them, but the majority of cerebral palsy cases could be avoided with several precautions. Regular prenatal tests can alert a pregnant mother of when there might be cause for concern about a possible cerebral palsy risk. Jaundice in newborns can be treated before it has the chance to become severe and proper immunizations for both the mother and the infant can decrease the risk of contracting an infectious disease that might lead to CP.

The most important thing is to take precautions and if you have any concerns about CP consult a professional.

--
Cerebral Palsy can be caused by a variety of reasons, mostly having to do with something going wrong during pregnancy but an injury can also cause CP.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Tips to Avoid Winter Colds, Flu and H1N1

Nobody likes to get sick, particularly around wintertime. The cold weather exacerbates respiratory symptoms, making recovery far less pleasant than it could be. At least during warmer months, a sick person can enjoy the warmth of the sun while they're recovering, but the colder days at the end of the year make recovery a positively miserable experience. It's also no surprise that so many people catch colds during this time of year. Children are still in school, parents and families are out shopping and interacting with one another in the rush to get last minute holiday gifts or visitations out of the way, and the chances of transmission from person to person go up, up, and up.

Fortunately, a reasonable degree of prevention can spare many people the frustration of going through a cold or flu during the winter. While they aren't foolproof, there are many steps that people can take to protect themselves and their families from falling ill.

The Flu versus A Cold

Both influenza (the flu) and the common cold are respiratory illnesses; both are caused by viruses that irritate the lungs and lead to symptoms like coughing, congestion and aches. However, they are caused by entirely different viruses, differ in intensity and symptoms, and are even transmitted by different means. Understanding the differences is important to treatment if all your prevention fails and someone does get ill.

Colds are largely transmitted through physical contact, rather than airborne transmission such as coughing or sneezing. Most people get colds by touching a contaminated surface, then touching their own eyes, nose, or mouth - such as handling a magazine passed by a friend who has a cold, followed by scratching an itchy eye corner. The flu, however, can be transmitted through airborne means as well as physical contact.

Between the two, influenza tends to be far more severe than a cold. Flu symptoms develop aggressively, sometimes within three to six hours of initial exposure, while a cold tends to develop more gradually. Both illnesses cause respiratory symptoms, but they differ in the details. A cold will generally result in a wet cough producing a lot of mucus, whereas the flu frequently results in a dry, unproductive hacking. Colds tend to have associated affects such a congestion and sneezing, whereas the flu does not. The flu more frequently results in a fever and strong body aches. The flu is significantly more dangerous, and should be watched carefully.

An Ounce of Prevention

There are steps that can be taken to prevent transmission of cold and flu germs, which in combination greatly reduce the chances of catching one of these diseases. Since as yet there is no cure for either ailment, preventative care is the best option available.

First, people should wash their hands regularly. As mentioned, cold and flu viruses spread through physical contact. Keeping your hands clean with soap and warm to hot water helps the most in preventing this casual contact. If these are not available, an alcohol-based sanitizer is an acceptable alternative, though the scrubbing and warm water are generally more effective.

People should avoid touching their nose and their eyes with their hands. Germs aggressively latch onto bare skin, and many infections come from inadvertently touching the soft tissues of the nose or eyes. In addition, people shouldn't cover their mouth with a bare hand when they cough or sneeze. If at all possible, they should sneeze into a tissue, and discard the tissue immediately afterward.

Drinking plenty of fluids is also important. The human body uses liquids to filter out the body's accumulated wastes, resulting in a healthier system overall. A healthy body with proper fluid intake is less likely to contract a cold or flu than one working less efficiently from having too few servings of water.

Vitamin C is also important to the immune system, so juices with this vitamin can double up on fluid and vitamin intake in most cases, though people shouldn't neglect plain water as well.

In particular, the flu can sometimes be prevented through a vaccination, commonly known as a flu shot. This involves exposing people to a weakened or dead form of the flu virus, allowing their body to develop immunity to it before the flu season begins. The vaccine is widely available, but is most recommended for the category of patient who is considered to be at most risk for serious flu complications: generally young children, people aged sixty-five or older, and those with preexisting chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or other heart and lung conditions. For a healthy young adult, the flu shot may not be as necessary, so they may wish to consider allowing the more needy to get to them.

The current H1N1, or swine flu, is a different variety of our seasonal flu and a different vaccine is available for this virus. However, it is affecting different groups of people, mostly children, young adults, and pregnant women. The same preventative steps can be taken for both the H1N1 virus and the regular seasonal influenza. If you're thinking about getting a flu shot, you should check with your doctor to determine if you need the regular vaccination, the H1N1 vaccination or both.

As a final note, people need to take the time to relax and avoid unnecessary stress. While stressors can be invigorating stimuli, too much unresolved and unproductive stress can wear the body out very quickly, reducing efficiency and increasing the risk of infections. People should make an effort to reduce the stress on their bodies by eating healthy foods, taking care of their fitness and hygiene, and taking the time to get proper amounts of sleep and relaxation each day.

While colds and the flu are contagious, and can cause problems, a little bit of information and care can help prevent the infection and let people enjoy a healthy winter season.

--
Janet Davis and her husband are health and nutrition entrepreneurs.
Dr. Malcolm Coulthard, a pediatric nephrologist at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital in Newcastle (UK) saved a newborn infant from certain death by his ingenious and innovative care for a newborn baby by the name of Millie Kelly.

When she was born, nearly two years ago in a different hospital in a different English city, Millie was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia, a severe malformation of the abdominal wall, resulting in the invasion of the intestine through the diaphragm. Then, shortly after surgery to repair the hernia, she developed acute renal failure. With her blocked kidneys, Millie was in mortal danger. Her only chance of survival depended on dialysis which seemed impossible because a 3 kilo baby can not normally be connected to a dialysis machine. One problem is the fact that the necessary membrane filtration connections do not conform to an infant's tiny body. Another issue is the access channels to the blood vessels and the inability to be able to boot machine circuit with a minimum 50 milliliters (ml) of blood where the maximum amount of blood you can take from a baby this small is 25 ml. Any more and you endanger the baby's life. (Due to a congenital malformation of her abdomen, Millie is one of the rare infants who can not undergo peritoneal dialysis, the technique commonly used in these cases.)

While this was happening, Dr Coulthard of Newcastle and his Dialysis unit's head nurse were working in his garage, putting the finishing touches on a special pediatric dialysis unit that could be used in Millie's case. To the utter delight of the two inventors, Millie was connected to their prototype for several hours a day for a week. While acute renal failure usually responds to treatment immediately, this course of treatment had to be extended longer, but it eventually proved successful. Today, at two years of age, Millie is a vivacious, healthy blonde. Her mother, 21 year old Rebecca, told The Times that when she first saw the dialysis machine she knew it was hand made because of the pieces of metal and exposed patches of paint.

--
Doctors how help get you what you need if you under went a stroke and then did not get the proper medical help you should have gotten if it was available.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Cerebral Palsy is the general name given to a class of disorders that affect children during their first years. It is characterized by difficulty in movements and coordination of the limbs and the torso. Ataxic Cerebral Palsy is the rarest form of Cerebral Palsy affecting only 10 to 15 percent of known cases. Named Ataxic, meaning not able to coordinate voluntary movements, specifically, not able to put limbs in a desired place, it affects walking, reaching, grasping, balance, and depth perception.

The most common sign of Ataxia Cerebral Palsy is the intention or action tremor. This is the shaking of the limbs when trying to complete voluntary tasks such as buttoning a shirt, holding a pencil, or pushing a button. Intention tremors also affect walking; causing the individual to walk unsteadily with legs spread far apart. Problems with depth perception add to the patient's inability to complete these every day voluntary tasks.

The overall cause of Ataxic Cerebral Palsy is damage to the cerebellum, the back lower portion of the brain, which connects to the Medulla and subsequently to the spinal cord. Specific reasons for damage to this part of the brain occur from five sources, fetal complications, genetics, injury, disease, or malpractice.

Fetal complications occurring in the uterus are diminished blood and/or oxygen supplies to the brain. Hereditary and genetic factors have also been shown to be a cause. Head injuries to the fetus or newborn infant are also an originating factor. Diseases such as severe or untreated jaundice in newborn infants, meningitis in the pregnant mother, as well as maternal seizures or thyroid disorders are also a source. Medical malpractice before, during, or after birth have been proved also to be the cause in some patients.

There is no known cure, but there are treatments that can help the patient improve their lifestyle. These treatments include anticonvulsant drugs like Primidone, muscle relaxants such as Benzodiazepine and Botox. Other treatments include physical therapy, occupational therapy, motion exercises and devices that lessen the stress and fatigue of intention tremors such as wheelchairs and braces.

Cooling the forearm, wrist and hand with a cold pack like device is a new treatment being used to lessen the intention tremors. Cooling makes it possible to perform common tasks like cooking, putting on makeup, or writing for about 30 minutes after treatment.

While these treatments can help the patient live with their disease, they have limited uses and the intention tremors and lack of muscle coordination will inevitably worsen as the patient ages.

--
A baby can remains in the birth canal for an extended period and may be deprived of an adequate oxygen supply. this can be a result of drugs given to mothers to initiate contractions and labour. In most cases this does not cause a problem, but it can result in excessively prolonged labour when the drugs do not work as intended.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com
