A Day spa has always been a popular part of a women's beauty regime. In fact there is a growing trend for men to make it part of their regime too. Perhaps not beauty but handsomeness would be a better term for a man?

There are many types of day spa, but have you considered what you want out of the experience apart from glowing skin and a new spring in the step? What I mean is that if all you are doing is giving your body a full service, are you missing out?

Day Spa’s, sometimes called health and beauty spas are dedicated to the relaxation and rejuvenation of the body but what about the mind? A day spa should not only be a place about massage, nail care, beauty treatment’s, hot tubs and skin.

Personally, I would look for an experience where your mind is as relaxed as your body. Where does this start? It starts with the physical environment and the approach of the owners.
An old building, tastefully furnished without self awareness is a great start. The ability to feel comfortable and to blend in wherever you are is an essential.

How about a place where all the clocks have been stopped! Where time does not exist at all and you do not feel rushed? Most of us feel rushed from the minute the alarm clock goes off to the time we sink into a warm bath much later at night.

The idea of a day spa where the mind and the body are treated at the same time is not new and often described by the word ‘wellness’. My preference is to use the word ‘holistic’, the definition of which is a philosophy that views physical and mental aspects of life as closely interconnected and equally important approaches to treatment.

So will you choose a day spa or a holistic health spa? The choice is yours to make but for me it’s a no contest, preferring an environment which is more than smiling people and great treatments. A spring clean of the mind as well as a tuning up service for my body is the ultimate objective when choosing a day spa.
