Myth Or Reality- Obese Children Snore More?

Submitted by asonor

When you first hear the term of snoring, there is a direct association to adults, instead of children. There are the rare occasions that snoring is normal for kids, directly due to tiredness but a child w who snores on a regular basis really needs to be carefully monitored, diagnosed and cured.

Just as adults, there are many reasons that children tend to snore, and there are more than several secondary results due to the child's snoring problem. Snoring in children is linked to many reasons, but no matter the cause, a solution truly needs to be found. If you know that your child does not have a problem due to cold or allergy congestion, then there is the possibility of asthma. You can monitor your child's activities, along with secondary physical reactions to see the number of physical signs related to asthma.

The next step is to look at physical reasons such as obesity. If your child is overweight, then he or she is very likely to have all kinds of related health issues, and may include the issue of snoring. If this may be the case, there is then the need to help your child with a better all-around nutritious daily diet. It may be necessary for health reasons and to directly stop snoring, having more energy and indirectly fighting off the pre-disposition of any obesity related future diseases. Just as adults, if there is a lot of extra fat around the child's facial and neck area, then they are most likely to snore directly from the extra fat constricting the breathing passage ways.

If obesity is not the issue, then there needs to be the consideration of a doctor's visit for a full check on any types of physical abnormalities. Another common problems related to snoring in children is due to inflamed tonsils. Children's tonsils tend to be larger than adults breathing airways and their tonsils. Although, kids may have larger tonsils for a while, until they 'grow' into them, the biggest worries are when the child's tonsils are extra large, that could be due to continued throat infections. This is one physical cause that truly needs to be checked for and determined by the child's physician.

There are several specific daytime functional concerns that all parents need to be aware of if they have children that regularly snore. Snoring in children has now been linked to home, school and overall social behavioral problems. There could be many morning wake-up issues that are worse than the average child. Your child may have moderate to even severe headaches when having unresolved snoring issues throughout the night. There will also be an overwhelming desire to sleep during daily activities while excess drowsiness is a sign of inadequate restful sleep at night. Snoring by children has also been linked to ADHD so these are valid reasons to finding anti snoring treatment for your kid.
