Though many countries still do not place aromatherapy in ‘main stream’ medical treatment, there are many medical uses of essential oils available. Many cultures have understood the medical uses of essential oils for centuries, and have used them to help treat a wide variety of conditions.

Probably the most progressive country when it comes to the medical uses of essential oils is France. Doctors who have studied aromatherapy from a scientific point of view prescribe essential oils to patients after testing which oils will be of most use to the individual patient.

Because essential oils react with our body chemistry, one particular oil may work well for one person, and not for another. French aromatherapy doctors have understood this, and take this into account when deciding on the medical uses of essential oils.

Far from exhaustive, the following list includes conditions which may be helped by the medical uses of essential oils:
*Abdominal pain or cramps
*Acne
*Burns
*Depression
*Insomnia
*Headaches/Migraines
*Muscle Fatigue
*Sprains
*Stress

The medical uses of essential oils come from the fact that therapeutic grade essential oils are anti-viral and anti-bacterial at a minimum. Many also have other properties which make them wonderful for healing, soothing, stimulating, energizing, heating or cooling, depending on the oil.

More and more medical practitioners are also beginning to value the medical uses of essential oils. Some prescribe various aromatherapy treatments to patients undergoing cancer therapies, and others now use aromatherapy post-op, to help with recovery times.

There are many books available which go into great detail regarding the medical uses of essential oils, and will list individual oil properties, the types of conditions they can treat, and what other oils they work well with. Many of these books also include recipes you can use, or you can create your own blends.

The internet is also a good source for information regarding the medical uses of essential oils. Many sites list oil properties, as well as various conditions, and the best oils for those conditions, along with a variety of recipes.

If you decide that the medical uses of essential oils mean that you want to use aromatherapy to treat a particular condition, make sure that you use only therapeutic grade oils. Cheap, synthetic oils can be dangerous when used for aromatherapy purposes.

Aromatherapy is meant to treat the body, soul and mind, not cause damage, so it is important that top grade oils are used. The medical uses of essential oils provide people with many benefits when used correctly, and are completely natural, which is becoming important to many people.
