Home Remedies for Headaches

A hangover is what your body feels when you consume too much alcohol the night before. Heavy consumption of drugs or alcohol can deplete the body of much needed nutrients as well as dehydrate it to a critical level.

Causes of Hangovers Symptoms:

- Alcohol increases urination. Needless to say, urinating more than usual can lead to dehydration.

- Alcohol can irritate the lining of the stomach, increases stomach acid production and delays stomach emptying, which can cause nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

- Alcohol can cause a lack of refreshing sleep, which, in turn, may leave you groggy and fatigued.

- Alcohol can cause blood sugar regulation disturbance. More specifically, alcohol can cause your blood sugar to fall too low and, as such, you may experience fatigue, weakness, shakiness and mood changes.

- Alcohol dilates blood vessels, which can lead to headaches.

- Alcoholic beverages contain alcohol by-products called congeners that seem to increase the severity of a hangover. Congeners are toxic impurities that can have a great impact in adding to your woes.

- Lastly, acetaldehyde, a chemical created when the body processes alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor that causes hangover symptoms.

Symptoms of Hangovers:

• Dry mouth and terrible thirst

• Dreadful, hammering headache

• Over-sensitivity to light and noises

• Strong perspiration, your whole body is drenched in sweat

• Nausea, vomiting, sick feeling in your stomach

• Dizzy, shaky feeling, probably trembling

• Exhaustion, great tiredness

• Anxious mood, feeling down, miserable and depressed

Treatment of Hangovers:

• Green or red tea with no sugar makes your stomach feel better. Drink a couple of cups. Tea contains important microelements that help to remove toxins from the cells.

• Make a banana milkshake. Bananas cure hangover quite effectively because they contain potassium.

• Honey is a popular organic hangover cure. The amount of amino acids and nutritive substances found in honey makes it a No. 1 remedy. Eat one or two teaspoonfuls each 5 minutes for about an hour, and you'll find yourself a lot more active than you expected.

• You still have to eat something. Salted cucumbers or cabbage is a popular hangover remedy in the Eastern Europe.

• Beer has always been among the common cures for hangovers. A brewed drink contains vitamins and nourishes organism.

• Don't just drink. Eat something, preferably greasy. Stuff your stomach with food that fills you up. It will prolong the time needed for the alcohol to reach body organs.

• Choose only one drink and do not mix it with anything. Avoid cocktails and coolers.

• Allot at least several hours for sleep. If you finish partying ar 4 a.m. and you have to get up at 7, not a single remedy in the whole world will help you.

• Avoid dark coloured drinks - these include red wine, brandy and port and contain impurities called congeners, these are particularly toxic for your body.

• Replace lost vitamins and minerals; as your body works to break down the alcohol in your body it uses up huge amounts of vitamins and minerals.
