Keeping Tension Headache at Bay

Submitted by gonzaga.marco

Of the many kinds of pain to strike us, tension headache is one of the most common. However, despite its commonness, the real reason why we have it has not been discovered as yet. Normally, tension headaches begin when we feel the top of our heads hurting with a kind of pain usually described as a tight feeling pressing around the head as though a band is wrapped around it. At times, the pain could be felt at the back of our necks and/or the base of our skulls. Despite the mystery behind its real cause, managing tension headache is easily treated with the use of an over-the-counter pain relief drug. It is rare that people would seek medical attention simply because they are suffering from a tension headache. Only when it is accompanied by other symptoms and if it persists for a longer duration that a visit to our doctor becomes necessary. Nevertheless, the best way to deal with it is by altering our lifestyle. Below are some valuable tips we can use to keep tension headache at bay.

Getting physically active by means of engaging in regular exercise relaxes our muscles and keeps our bodies' level of beta-endorphins up. The latter are responsible for naturally easing our stress levels. In fact, exercising when you're already experiencing the pain can alleviate it.

Among the other suggested routines/activities you can try to stave off tension headache are yoga, massage, and posture and stretching classes.

Performing activities that help us manage stress effectively is helpful. Such activities include relaxation therapy and biofeedback training. Engaging in biofeedback sessions help us enforce control on specific areas of our body to help us decrease pain. The main objective is help us achieve a state of relaxation, which would greatly assist us in coping with the pain.
