Myofascial Pain: Deal and Heal

Submitted by gonzaga.marco

Myfascial pain or muscle pain is a muscular disorder that is characterized by pain and inflammation of the body's soft tissues. The soft connective tissues or membranes that cover the muscles are referred to as fascia, hence the name of the disorder. Myofascial pain can induce and diffuse pain in a great area. Being non-localized pain, myofascial pain can cause a great deal of discomfort to anyone who is suffering from it. For some comfort and pain relief for myofascial pain, get on with these tips:
1. Keep symptoms in check.
Before a pain episode, myofascial pain is likely to manifest itself first as symptoms. Some symptoms of myofascial pain include muscle tenderness and soreness, stiffness in movement, and localized pain in a certain muscle group or part. Relieving these symptoms are likely to prevent a pain episode or reduce its intensity. Whenever possible apply remedies like massages or warm compresses as soon as any of these symptoms hit. With careful and early application of these remedies, you may not have to suffer a longer pain episode.
2. Get medical care and prescription pain medications.
Muscle pain can easily be relieved by using pain medications like muscle relaxants. Using a multidisciplinary pain management system is also a good idea. Seek a pain management program that addresses the physical pain along with the depression and frustration which may arise due to the isolation you may feel when you suffer from pain.
3. Get moving with regular physical activity.
Mild exercises like stretching can help relieve myofascial pain by strengthening your muscles and increasing their elasticity and flexibility. To be on the safe side and avoid over-straining your muscles, it is best if you ask your doctor or physical therapist to help you come up with an exercise plan. This also helps prevent muscle degeneration due to non-use.
