The Fort Myers Pain Clinic Set to Curb Drug AbuseSubmitted by managementpain Tue, 22 Sep 2009
A New Life Pain Management is set to open on Saturday September 26, 2009. Why is this a big deal? In the midst of what is probably the biggest shakeup for pain management in the state of Florida in the last decade a small clinic in Fort Myers is going to try to make a difference regardless of current leniency that is built into the law? At A New Life Pain Management a Fort Myers Pain Management Clinic we plan on taking the extra steps to curb drug abuse, Dr. shopping and pure and simple anything negative that comes along with a pain management clinic.
Obviously unless you have been under a rock for the last year or so you have heard stories day in and day out about "pill mills" and Florida. One of the largest problems is out of state people coming to Florida to get opioid based narcotics and going back to there respective state to peddle them as a drug dealers. At Fort Myers Pain Management our policy to stop that is very simple we require in state identification and even have mileage restrictions within the state. Another huge concern is that people are getting these prescriptions and diverting them. A New Life Pain Management requires a 10 panel drug test on all new patients along with random drug testing at the doctors discretion. The reason for the drug testing is pure and simple we verify that the Pt. is on the medications that are prescribed and also to make sure that there is no illicit drug use taking place along side prescribed medications. Every patient has to have and bring all diagnostic testing results and medical records to be verified by our staff prior to even sitting with our physician. Fort Myers Pain Management and their physicians have very strict standards on how recent these diagnostic tests have to be. Along with all the previously mentioned safeguards we take, the patient is required to fill out a very extensive contract promising to abide by numerous different requests by the physician along with promises not to doctor shop and so on. Is this a perfect system probably not, but we can say that as of now we are going above and beyond what the current law states a Florida pain clinic that does not bill third parties is required to do. We can also attest to the fact that numerous other pain clinics in Fort Myers operate in the same manner. No one knows what will come of SB-462 and its rule making workshops but as a pain clinic owner you have to have some ethics and take steps to help the people who need help without letting narcotics fall into the wrong hands and ruining the community.
