Plastic Surgery – Change Your Look & Enhance Confidence

Plastic surgery can be defined as a type of medical specialty that utilizes many different surgical & non surgical techniques in order to change the overall appearance & function of an individual’s body. The procedure of plastic surgery includes both cosmetic advancements & operations associated to functional reconstruction of a part of the human body. In cases where surgeons give emphasis on aesthetics more than functionality the surgery is referred to as cosmetic surgery. Most surgical procedures include both aesthetic & functional elements.

If we talk about the history of plastic surgery, it dates back to the era of 700s BCE. Great physicians of India from the ancient times such as sushruta were know to use skin grafts for conducting reconstructive work in the 8th century B.C.. In most of his famous literaries, this great physician has described otoplasty & rhinoplasty.

The Romans used to perform simple techniques like repairing damaged ears from 1st century BC. In the middle of the fifteenth century rhinoplasty was executed in Europe.

Rhinoplasty is the plastic surgery of nose. Plastic surgery for the head & face was also established during the nineteenth & twentieth centuries. These surgeries were known to have a higher degree of complications.

In the year 1827, Dr. John Peter Meltaner was the first reputed plastic surgeon in America who conducted the first ever cleft palate operation via utilizing different surgical instruments. Sir Harold Gillies is popularly known as the father of the modern plastic surgery & has introduced many different procedures for modern plastic surgery. There are many different types of plastic surgeries available for people these days.

a) Cosmetic Surgery: This type of a surgery helps in building up the facial features or existing appearance of an individual. Most of these surgical methods include various complication, Abdominoplasty, abdominal etching, rhinoplasty, mastopexy, otoplasty & buttock augmentation are some of the most prevalent cosmetic surgeries.
b) Reconstructive Surgery: This type of surgery is usually undertaken by women who had a palate of surgery for burns, mastectomy, cleft lip or contracture. Sex reassignment surgery is also termed as one of the most important types of reconstructive surgery that’s usually undertaken by the transsexual people.

Plastic surgery can be observed as a wide term used for prominent & efficient physical management for different purposes. The word plastic is desired from the Greek word ‘plastikos’ and refers to a specific form or shape. The word is not associated in anyway to the modern plastic equipments.

Plastic surgeons ensure development of appearance & self image in the patients. This is usually undertaken by the means of reconstructive & cosmetic procedures.

Chopart was the surgeon who executed operative procedure of a lip in the year 1791. This was done by using a flap from the neck. In the year 1814, Sir Joseph Carpue performed operation successfully on a British military officer who lost his nose to the toxic effects of mercury treatments.

In 1845, Dieffenbach was the first surgeon to introduce the concept of reoperation in order to enhance cosmetic appearance of an already reconstructive nose.
