All you need is some education. The type of education you need is a high school diploma which is required to start in the training program to become an EMT or paramedic. But you most complete the training program and certification process to be able to get an emergency medicine job. Training is offered at progressive levels which are known as EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and EMT-Paramedic.
In EMT-Basic level you learn many different emergency skills, such as managing respiratory, trauma, and cardiac emergencies, and patient assessment. Also in this training you learn how to deal with bleeding, airway obstruction, fractures, emergency childbirth, and cardiac arrest. Graduates that are approved for EMT-Basic training must pass a written and practical examination which is given out by the state. The next level of this emergency medicine job is the EMT-Intermediate level. For this level you need to learn about the use of advanced airway devices, some medications, and intravenous fluids. This level also differs in states to what qualifications you need to do to get to the next level of your emergency medicine job. The next level of training you can do for your emergency medicine job is the highest level which is called EMT-Paramedic. At this level, the trainee receives training in anatomy, physiology, and also as well in advanced medical skills. usually, the training is done in a community college and/or technical school this will take 1 to 2 years or until associate's degree is retrieved. After completing this you could take the written and practical examination. Each state requires certification for each EMT level completed. In most states and the District of Columbia registration with the NREMT is required at all levels of certification. Some states have their own examination or give you the option of taking either the NREMT or state examination. To keep your certification for your emergency medicine job, EMTs must recertify, usually every 2 years. usually, they must be working as an EMT or paramedic and meet a continuing education requirement. once all this is completed you are at the highest level for your emergency medicine job. Other qualifications that you need for your emergency medicine job is that all EMTs and paramedics should be emotionally stable, be agile, coordinated, and be able to lift heavy loads. They also have to have good eye sight and must be able to see in color. There are also many advancements that you can take part in for your emergency medicine job like some Paramedics become supervisors,administrative directors, operations managers, or even executive directors of emergency services. Then also some EMTs and paramedics become physician assistants, instructors, dispatchers, others move into sales or marketing for emergency medical equipment. But most people just stay EMTs just to be able to test themselves. Most all people become sucessful in there emergency medicine job. As you can see you can become an EMT just by completing the following for your emergency medicine job. In this economy it is a great career to begin.
