Natural Home Remedies for Constipation

Constipation is one of the most common digestive complaints in the United States. The normal frequency of bowel movements varies widely from person to person, from once or more a day to three times a week. The undigested and indigestible residue passes from the end of the small intestine into the large intestine, or "colon", which stores the residue until you are ready to get rid of it. The colon walls absorb much of the excess water from the residue, leaving only semisolid waste (the stool).

This condition can be quite distressing for the family but is usually easy to treat. Infants are noted to strain excessively and have difficulty passing stools, even though their stools are of normal consistency. Many times constipation can be treated with over the counter remedies. However, you should see your doctor if you have any of the following symptoms:

• Bowel movements don't improve after changing your diet and getting enough exercise
• Abdominal or rectal pain
• Bloody stool
• Constipation alternating with diarrhea
• Unexpected weight loss
• Thin, pencil like stools

Natural Home Remedies for Constipation: -

• The simplest home remedy for constipation is to drink a glass of lemon juice in water with a pinch of salt in it. This will treat any kind of constipation you are suffering from.
• Grapes have laxative properties and prevent chronic constipation. Dry grapes are helpful in preventing constipation. Soak dry grapes in a vessel overnight and take this at early morning in an empty stomach.
• A before meal technique would be to have a tsp of linseed with water. It brings in the much needed lubrication required for constipation.
• Ginger tea is a great home remedy for constipation. It helps start bowel movement.
• Immerse 10 to 12 dry grapes without seeds in milk and heat the milk till it boils. Strain the milk. While you are drinking the milk, chew the grapes side by side. It is one of the useful remedy for treating constipation naturally.
• This remedy is one of the good home remedy for constipation using Olive oil : One teaspoon of olive oil or any good vegetable oil taken each morning will lubricate the system. This is beneficial for the treatment of constipation.
