When you are worried or anxious about something your body reacts in different ways and produces symptoms of anxiety that you may interpret as a symptom of something more serious. The nervous system perceives worry or tension over an issue as a threat to the body and therefore puts measures in place to enable to body to ward off this threat.

It is not able to distinguish between real and perceived threats and this is why symptoms develop over imagined as well as real threats. You may not even realize that you body does think there is a threat, which is why anxiety attacks seem to come out of thin air.

The symptoms of anxiety do not manifest themselves in the same way for each person. This is due to the different chemical makeup of each person as well as the different emotions people feel in the same circumstances.

An event that could be an anxiety trigger for one person may not affect another at all. The nervous system extends to all parts of the body in the nerves and nerve endings and this means that an anxiety attack can affect any part of the body and no two attacks may have the same symptoms. Some may be less frightening than others.

Symptoms of anxiety can appear in physical or mental ways. Physical symptoms affect the body in different ways, so much so that you do not even associate them with anxiety. These include:

· allergies of different kinds

· back pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints

· turning pale or blushing red

· an increase or decrease in body temperature and/or blood pressure

· a burning or itching sensation on the skin

· chest pain or tightness

· a choking feeling

· feeling excessively cold or hot

· having difficulty moving or speaking

· a feeling that you cannot relax and have to stay active

· the sensation that you are going to pass out

· nausea or vomiting

· abdominal discomfort

· pounding heartbeat

· headache

· muscle tension and pain

· sweating more than normal

· lightheadedness or dizziness

Symptoms of anxiety that manifest themselves in mental ways can affect your emotions and moods. You may feel as if you are losing control and that you are going crazy. You may even have reduced hearing in that you don't hear all of what is being said to you, which can lead to misinterpretation of some events.

You may become afraid of everything and if anxiety attacks are frequent, you will likely have a feeling of Deja Vu. Anxiety can cause depression if you don't realize the symptoms for what they are and try to find a reason for your anxious feelings. It can also cause you to feel angry most of the time and this affects how others interact with you, which can cause the situation to become worse than it needs to be.

Other symptoms of anxiety can affect your sleep patterns. You may have difficulty falling asleep or wake frequently through the night. On the other hand, you may feel excessively tired and have to take naps during the day. You may feel worse in the morning because you don't get a good night's sleep.

Anxiety attacks don't last for a long time and they do leave you feeling drained. If you experience symptoms of anxiety attacks on a frequent basis, you should seek medical help.
