Nurse Call Systems - A Way To Take Care of Your Loved Ones

We all are used to falling down or tripping over something while walking. Since most of us recover quickly and move on, we hardly give fall protection a thought. However, a fall for a disabled or elderly loved one can be much more serious. According to the data made available by a leading healthcare unit in the UK, more than 79 percent of nursing home care residents do not have any fall protection in place. More than half of these long term care residents fall at least once in six months. Another report states that one in every five hospitalized patients suffer a fall during their stay. While this is a significant percentage, it is nothing compared to the figures outlining that roughly two thirds of all disabled or elderly individuals who fall often in their own homes.

The rough estimate of healthcare costs involved in recovering from injuries caused by falls runs into millions of pounds. Besides this, the health and quality of life is severely compromised. Some prevention methods used in past have included increasing staff numbers and restricting mobility of the individual. These methods are less favourable - increasing staff numbers is not cost effective and limiting the mobility of patients impacts upon their basic rights. Also, carers or nurses cannot always be present, so falls are still inevitable.

Therefore ensuring appropriate protection from the fall is important. One of the ways to do is by installing a nurse call system. Medical science has worked hard in developing such products that help us in making the quality of life better. For elderly and disabled individuals, modernized safety equipments have seen a sharp rise. With the introduction of optical beam trip lines and wireless communicators, innovation has driven technology to filter through the market and reach the type of people for whom it means a lot.

Integrating fall protection with nurse call system ensures that a carer or nurse is informed as soon as the alarm goes off. A fully efficient nurse call system is specially designed to meet the requirements of individuals and their homes. Alarm buttons, pull switches and common room alarm points add to the convenience of calling your nurse when you need. On pressing the nurse call system, the nurse gets a message through their personalized pagers and they know immediately the nature of fall or other injury. Knowing the type of damage beforehand gives them ample time to carry the necessary equipments or medicines and reach you within shortest duration possible.

The alarm box, that comes with nurse call system, is very easy to operate and can be reset by anyone including the person being cared for. It also has a tamper proof system which allows only the carer to stop the alarm using a code or key.

Wireless technology has become common in our society and good reason. Wireless communicators such as nurse call systems allow individuals to have more freedom in their everyday lives while the ones who love them can also breathe a sigh of relief.
