In order to keep our brain healthy, we need to keep the chemicals balanced. Once that chemical balance is changed, a tendency to develop a psychological conditions like anxiety disorders and depression to name a few. Little do most people know that the nutrients we get from the food we eat are what these brain chemicals depend on to stay in check.

To cite examples, here are some food items that can help manage certain psychological conditions:

Depression: Feeling blue? Mental health experts are most likely to suggest that you increase your fish intake if you're feeling more and more depressed. Why so? It's because of the Omega-3 fatty acids found in them, more specifically docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). DHA is said to be important in promoting better neural communication. Also, studies have shown a significant increase in serotonin production in people who often eat fish.

Anxiety: Feeling jittery and anxious before a stage performance? You may want to try eating some lean chicken wrap or burger without the dressing. Chicken is lean meat and is a great source of protein. Taking around 4 to 5 ounces of protein can help the brain produce more dopamine and norepinephrine, both are neurochemicals that help us stay alert and keep us on our toes.

Stress: Cramming to finish your project hours before the deadline? Snack of sesame seeds to beat the stress. Cortisol, the body's stress hormone, uses the body's supply of magnesium. Low magnesium levels can reduce our ability to cope with stress and increase our risks of having an elevated blood pressure. Sesame seeds are proven to be a great source of magnesium.

Of course these are only examples of food that can help with the above mentioned conditions. To learn more about which foods can help for the different psychological conditions, talk to your doctor. Think about it? Wouldn't it be easier to deal with these conditions with food that taking prescription medications?
