Who doesn't want to slow the aging process? Well the good news is that there are now real ways to halt the onset of the signs of aging and, with a good anti aging program, staying young is really a lot more under your control than you might imagine.

Many of the signs of aging that we assume are natural and unavoidable - like wrinkles, less mobility, poorer sight and hearing, disease, and various aches and pains - are really down to just not taking proper care of yourself and some poor lifestyle choices. And crucially the choices you make at mealtimes are just as important as exercise, proper skincare and other parts of a modern anti-aging strategy. And I don't use that word lightly - it is a strategy, a simple yet structured program of actions that can make you look and feel amazing.
Many studies have now shown beyond doubt that simply adding lots of fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet will give you more energy, keeps your weight under control, and lowers your risk of contracting many diseases. This is partly because most fruits and vegetables have no fat or bad cholesterol, they are completely natural, and they are low in calories, which means you can fill yourself up without gaining weight.
Fresh produce also contains lots of fiber, which has many known medical benefits in areas as diverse as helping prevent diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, and even heart disease. And of course they are also filled with many important vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, calcium, iron, and beta-carotene.
Fruits and vegetables are also chock full of antioxidants which help combat the destructive free radicals that attack and damage our cells themselves, so a diet with lots of antioxidants is a great way to combat aging. As well as playing a key role in preventing many common diseases, antioxidants also help build up the immune system, are good for the heart, and reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men.
Another method that has been studied as a way to slow the aging process is to simply eat less! This sounds like the most simplistic advice but 'calorie restriction' is an area of serious study in anti-aging medicine circles. It is not a case of starving yourself, or even going hungry, but those who don't eat until they're completely stuffed at every meal live significantly longer and have much lower rates of all those classic yet often avoidable age-related diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Once again it makes intuitive sense that this should be the case, so just simply stop eating when you have had enough - don't mindlessly keep going until the plate is empty.
But by eating less don't forget to keep eating the right kinds of food. Reduce the portions of sugar, fat, and other empty calories and avoid fast food where possible, but get plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains.
Also make sure you eat more fish. Fish are rich in good fats (yes these do actually exist) such as the omega-3 fatty acids which are good for your heart and your immune system. Omega-3 fats can also help prevent the growth of cancer cells. And yes you can eat red meat, but not at every meal, and make sure they are lean cuts and from 'grass fed' herds where possible.
Another great reason for eating lots of fruits and vegetables is that they also have chemicals called phytonutrients which, among many other internal benefits, help keep your skin looking nice and healthy. The role of phytonutrients in plants includes giving them their color, attracting bees for pollination and repelling insects.

Finally, and especially as many people say that real health and beauty come from the inside, a vital aspect of good health and longevity is a healthy digestive system and colon. It's not very glamorous but it is really important. Among the best ways to promote good digestion and elimination are through taking regular exercise, drinking plenty of water every day, and once again eating a good natural diet with plenty of fiber. Conversely, try to avoid or else manage situations that can have a negative impact on the function of the colon, including continued high levels of stress, sudden changes in routine, pregnancy, a sedentary lifestyle and even taking certain medications.

So good nutrition is vital to any anti-aging program. These are simply a few pointers to get started with but they lay the foundations to helping you stay younger for longer. Remember, you are quite literally what you eat. Your whole body replaces itself over a period of time and the raw material used is the food you eat. Remember this the next time you are contemplating junk food!
