What are the Causes of Thinning Hair?

Submitted by rss41

Is your thinning? Have you checked your hair lately and felt that it felt weak and less buoyant? This is called hair thinning. This condition is rampant among many women and men all over the globe. It is hereditary and therefore is passed down through the genes from the parents to the child. However, it is recessive in some while it is dominant in others.

Look around your family. Do you have anyone whose hair is thinning out? Chances are that you are likely to develop it sooner or later. But before we go on, what are the causes of thinning hair? Why would you hair suddenly start thinning out even before you get to your old age?

During the process of hair braiding the scalp becomes stressed and weaker. However, scarring is more as a result of constant hair braiding or hair plucking. If these are not remedies on time, they result in permanent damage to an individual and cause the scalp to be permanently affected. Sometimes, injuries and burns to the scalp can cause the hair to thin out. Likewise, certain diseases like folliculitis which is the inflammation of the hair follicle, scleroderma, lupus erythematosus, bacterial and fungal infections

Another cause of thinning hair is alopecia areata. This is usually seen as a formation of round or oval patches on the scalp. This condition is very embarrassing n that it causes the individual to lose hair. Fortunately, hair lost as a result of alopecia areata can grow back in about 6 months to one year. This all depends on how severe the infection is.

Ideally, there should be a cure for alopecia areata. But as in all problems, if he cause and root is not determined, the disease cannot be treated. As of the time of writing this article, the cause of alopecia areata has not been ascertained.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) has been pinned as one of the most prevalent culprits responsible for thinning hair in men. DHT is a by-product of the hormone testosterone usually secreted by the male hormonal glands. Testosterone plays a very important role in developing the man's secondary sexual characteristics especially during the embryonic stage in his life. It also plays a big role during the puberty and adolescent stage of a male child.

Even though the testosterone is important, its by product which is DHT causes the thinning hair by making the hair follicles to become thinner and shorter. This continues until there is the presence of DHT inhibitors in the body.
