Portable Massage Chairs: My Place or Yours

Submitted by mjmarks

Portable massage chairs are sweet! They obviously allow the massage therapist to take their show on the road. Some years ago while at University I had a chance to enjoy a neck and upper back massage outside at a promotional event where different massage therapists were demonstrating their art. Having the actual chairs there made all the difference. Somehow I don't think a poster or description of the massage would have been near as effective as it was actually having a massage.

As I have aged and experienced the degenerating effects of time on my back I have come to value the services of massage therapy professionals. I recently made arrangements to go see a therapist that my Mom had recommended. When I called to make an appointment the therapist told me that I could come in to their office, or that they could come to me. I thought this was great because I realized that some people may not feel comfortable going into a strange environment for a massage. Portable massage chairs made this offer even possible. In my case, it made more sense for me to make the trip to town, but I could have opted to stay at home and have the therapist come to me.

Some portable massage chairs are extremely basic, while others are more deluxe. You get what you pay for, so just be sure to compare apples to apples if you are in the market. As a client, I prefer chairs that have a nice soft comfortable place to rest my face. I don't like the sticky vinyl ones. I also prefer to have a place to rest my arms rather than have them hang down in an unsupported fashion. Arm rests, face rests, and other options that make the patient more comfortable during the massage go a long way to the satisfaction level experienced during the massage session. Therapists who opt for portable massage chairs without some of these features do so at their own risk. People who enjoy the massage will want to come back again and again. People who are more stressed out as a result of getting a massage in an inferior chair likely won't be back.

Sometimes nothing comes close to the benefit of using a professional massage table, both as a therapist and as a client. But when this isn't practical, portable massage chairs come to the rescue. I asked my therapist which one she likes using most and she said it really depends on the needs of the client. This made perfect sense to me. She said that she finds that most people prefer to come in for their sessions and that the regular massage table is most often the best choice. However, she did say that even though this is the case for most people, she does have some clients who will come in and actually prefer to receive their massage in the portable chairs. This is because sometimes the chairs are better suited to angle the body in just the right way for the most effective manipulation of the troubled areas.

Portable massage chairs are a wonderful tool for massage therapists to use. They allow them to go to their clients when that makes more sense, and it allows them to give some clients exactly what they need. All this talking about massages has got me anxious for my next one. Time to go make a phone call.
