Power Yoga is referred to by many as the western adaptation of Ashtanga Yoga, which was originally practiced in India. It was given its name by teacher and author of the book of the same title, Beryl Bender Birch and is largely inspired by the philosophies of the Sanskrit scholar Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Power Yoga is the performance of several different yoga poses, carried out in one sequence of non-stop exercises. The practice incorporates Vinsaya - otherwise known as the riding breath - which enables you to move from one pose to the next. This school of yoga typically features dynamic movements that challenge your bodily and psychological aptitude, enabling you to connect with your inner power. Power Yoga is performed at a quicker speed than basic yoga, which is an essential part of increasing your physical capacity. The benefits of Power Yoga are the same as many other types of yoga. Practicing Power Yoga enables you to remain focused for longer periods of time, without becoming distracted. Power Yoga has many similarities with the tailored versions of Ashtanga Yoga, but it is also influenced by the practices of Iyengar and Bikram Yoga. Similar to Bikram Yoga, Power Yoga involves the practice of general fundamental yoga poses, which is a good for beginners and experienced yoga practitioners alike. Power Yoga also includes some modified Iyengar practices, including the importance placed on the outward appearance and placement through the exercise. Power Yoga also includes the practice of holding poses for long periods of time without moving, which helps to achieve the greatest benefits. Although influenced by many other yoga variations, Power Yoga still follows in the footsteps of classical yoga. Its overarching aim is to unify the body, mind and spirit, connecting you with your inner power and delving deeply into your physical, mental and spiritual abilities through every level of the poses and practices. Power Yoga is a good fit for high-level athletes, since it not only dramatically increases physical stamina, but teaches them to concentrate deeply during physical activity. Becoming more aware of their bodies and surroundings helps athletes to prevent injury and avoid time-consuming rehabilitation. Before you decide to try Power Yoga, make sure you’re healthy enough to cope with the demands of its practice. Power Yoga, like Bikram Yoga, is carried out in a heated room, which is intended to heighten your power and suppleness, boost your attentiveness, free anxiety, energize and tone your body through sweating and intense physical activity. The practice of Power Yoga can vary from one teacher to another, as each will have their own particular style.
