A lot of people who want to stop smoking forever, have probably tried before but failed. If you are one of those people, then you know how hard quitting can be. When you announce to your friends and family that you are going to stop smoking, they don't believe you. They know in the back of their minds that although you want to change, you can't. It is time to prove them wrong.

Some stop smoking tips that will help you kick the habit forever include keeping your hands and mouth busy with something other than a cigarette. If you feel a craving coming on, start typing on the computer to keep your hands distracted or chew on a piece of flavored gum which will keep your mouth busy.

To do this we have to replace the cigarette with something else, this could be a biscuit, for example. A tip that is known to work is to brush your teeth or have a polo mint every time you have a real urge to smoke. Yes it does sound crazy but it also works for a lot of people.

So while taking natural or prescription drugs to help you stop smoking, make sure that you're also changing your psychological habits. This may mean picking up a hobby or chore that keeps your hands busy, it may mean finding something else to occupy your thoughts, or it may mean hypnosis or some type of other psychological therapy.

Try to think of healthy snacks you can munch on when you get the urge. Those things would be carrots, celery, nuts, fresh slices of fruit like apples and oranges. The things you want to stay away from are chips and candy. Some forms of candy aren't too bad - like sugarless gum or sugar free hard candies.

Mental Boredom

Boredom plays a big part when it comes to smoking. Even though boredom may not be the primary reason for smoking, lighting and holding a cigarette can become a habit in certain situations for many people. A cigarette is automatically reached for by many people when arriving at a party, having a drink in a bar, when making a telephone call, or when it is necessary for them to wait for something or someone without anything else to occupy themselves with.

Moreover, among the many useful tips you will come upon, keep your mind on things like using hypnosis or making use of nicotine aids if you really want to kick the habit. As a final resort, you could even mull over doing cold turkey or even using certain medications that help a person to quit smoking.

Be In Tune With Your Body

In fighting the cigarette habit, it's extremely crucial that you are consciously aware of your nicotine cravings. You should be able to acknowledge these cravings so that you'll be able to deal with them. A craving should not be indulged - it will soon pass.

Dealing with Withdrawal

When you have finally decided to quit smoking for good, you should brace yourself for the possibility of adverse withdrawal effects. The first step in conquering such symptoms is acknowledging that they may happen. Be patient with yourself, especially when dealing with moments of temptation and personal crisis.
