Strategies to Successfully Quit Smoking

Submitted by gonzaga.marco

Despite the grave effects of smoking, millions of people worldwide are still smoking their lungs off for cigarettes and tobaccos. The good thing is, many tend to quit the habit after some time or after realizing the dreadful effects of too much smoking. Quitting smoking is the best thing anyone can do for his or her health and overall well-being.

Now, for those who have decided to quit smoking but are not quite sure how to begin, the following are some quit-smoking tips that are worth checking out:

Write it all down.
Writing down all your goals and commitments in quiting smoking is one effective way of ditching the habit. In doing this, you can also jot down all the side effects smoking can do to your body such as bad breath and higher risk to heart attacks. With all these on paper, you will be able to read all of these again and again if ever you feel the urge to smoke again.

Rely on others.
Quiting smoking is not easy, especially for heavy smokers. Strong support from friends and family members is very important if you are serious in quitting smoking. Also, you can join support group or programs, wherein you will get to mingle and collaborate with other smokers in quitting the habit.

Take things slow.
The best way actually to quit the habit of smoking is to take things slowly. As you decide to quit, try to lessen your daily nicotine intake instead of instantly quiting. This way, your body can adjust from the inevitable withdrawal symptoms.

Consider distractions.
At times when you feel the urge of smoking, do your best to distract yourself by doing some things that will take your mind off smoking; calling a friend or family member; watch movies with friends; or simply take quick walks. You can also try chewing on gums or carrot sticks to keep your mouth busy.
